For over 50 years, the company Parastone has dedicated itself to producing high-quality hand painted three dimensional representations of timeless masterpieces. This resin three dimensional representation depicts the iconic Spanish surrealist artist, Salvador Dali and his work “Portrait to Picasso” (1947), and belongs to Parastone’s museum collection. The Spaniard Surrealist artist also emerged like Pablo Picasso, the architect Gaudi and Joan Miro as products of the rich Catalan culture. During the early 1920’s while attending Madrid’s academy of fine arts Dali first discovered modern painting through the works of the french impressionists, the futurists, Picasso’s cubism, De Chirico, and the Italian Metaphysical School which influenced his works greatly. Most importantly for Dali’s artistic development was the discovery of Freudian Psychology whose studies on dreams and the subconscious answered some of his childhood torments and erotic fantasies. In 1929 that Salvador Dali became involved with the surrealist thanks to Joan Miro, and officially became a member of the surrealist movement after he moved to Paris. Later Dali developed his Paranoic-Critical method which consisted in the creation of a visionary reality from the elements of visions, dreams, memories and psychological or pathological distortions. Dali’s “Portrait of Picasso in the Twentieth Century” demonstrate the relationship between the two spaniard artists, which resulted in competitive artistic rivalry. Through his melted depiction of Picasso, Dali challenges Picasso’s artistic permanence but still emphasizes Picasso’s artistic genius through the liquid metal flowing through his head, the goat horns or the mandolin allude to his intellectualism. Dali differentiated his work from that of Picasso by stating that Picasso’s primary aesthetic concern was in emphasizing ugliness and fracturing the preconceived established ideas of beauty unlike his work praising the beautiful.
