SM7B

Good mic

Great mic, needs extra equipment to workI've used the Shure SM7B for years, while the audio quality and durability are top-tier, it requires a dedicated preamp & audio interface setup to make it usable. I personally combined it with a DBX 286s plus a Behringer UMC202HD to get enough clean gain to make it usable. Additionally, I have to boost it in post editing by 8-12 DB.Some streaming software doesn't allow you to boost the mic all that much, resulting in low volume. Perhaps you need even more boost than what I'm using. Also this is a hefty (heavy) microphone, make sure you get yourself a quality mic arm, like a rodePSA1.

The Shure SM7B is a game-changer for anyone serious about audio quality. As a podcaster and musician, finding a microphone that delivers on versatility and performance is paramount. The SM7B not only meets but exceeds expectations. Its construction exudes durability, a reassuring factor when investing in quality audio equipment. The sleek design is not just aesthetic but a testament to its robustness, fitting seamlessly into any studio setup. The standout feature? Its ability to capture rich, warm tones across a wide frequency range. Whether I'm recording vocals, instruments, or voiceovers, the SM7B consistently delivers crystal-clear sound reproduction. The bass roll-off and mid-range emphasis controls allow tailored sound shaping, adapting effortlessly to different recording environments and preferences. One thing to note: This microphone requires a good amount of gain, so pairing it with a high-quality preamp or interface is recommended for optimal performance. Additionally, its low sensitivity might not suit all recording setups, especially for quieter sound sources.Despite these considerations, the SM7B's exceptional noise rejection capabilities make it a top choice for professional studios. It effectively minimizes background noise, ensuring clean recordings even in less-than-ideal acoustic settings. In conclusion, the Shure SM7B is a true workhorse microphone. Its unparalleled sound quality, durability, and adaptability make it a staple for audio professionals and enthusiasts alike. While it might demand some additional equipment for optimal performance, the results it delivers justify every penny. If you're seeking a versatile, reliable microphone that consistently produces high-quality audio, the SM7B should be at the top of your list.Remember to tweak or adjust the review as needed, depending on your personal experiences and preferences with the microphone!

The other reviews say it all about the SM7B. It's the most popular podcast mic with all the trendy and most viewed podcasts for a very good reason (even if one of which is half of them can't stop playing with and readjusting it on the fly, and it's low handling noise let's them do so). But sound quality wise, it is truly one of the best around and THE best at the price point. However, you need lots of gain to drive it. That used to mean a fethead or similar, but so many audio interfaces have enough clean gain to drive it these days so it's less and less of an issue unless you're using old gear. The one caveat for me is that it is definitely not for all voice types. For my tone and timbre, it needs some work in post to make it palatable to the ear, but due to the quality of the thing all of the dynamics are there to allow me to do so. So it's worth bearing that in mind if you want a mic that you can plug in and go with a minimum of post production, this may or may not be the right one for you. A brighter, cheaper option like the Rode Podmic could well do the trick and save you a couple of hundred notes (enough to buy a decent interface and a second podmic). It's still great, it's just not ideal for all use cases.
