I did not need to set mine up. Mine was good to go as soon as I added batteries. The. Com amazon does have people reporting that they needed to set it up, check there for instructions.

I think my Apple TV is a generation 2 - it seems to work ok. Most of the time I use my iPad as the remote for Apple TV.
