Great information for someone who already has some understanding of biochem, as it does get rather intricate at times. But it's a wonderful resource for someone looking to gain a deeper understanding of the detailed roles of food on sport and exercise performance and training. Review: Informative and Thorough - Whilst some of the words I read went in one (eye?) and out the other, this book is exactly what I was looking for. It breaks down each nutritional source to its chemical composition and provides comprehensive recommendations for how much of each to consume in your diet.

so if there are more people feeling the same way as I did this is a very good book to buy
I bought this to help understand my workout program and what happens when I workout and what foods do and how they are used.. very informative and made my lifestyle a lot more understandable.. because for years I was going to the gym and being told my PT's what to do and what not to and I never understood it.. so if there are more people feeling the same way as I did this is a very good book to buy

Great for overall nutritional knowledge
After I finished reading NSCA's Guide to Program Design and was extremely pleased with the content and readability of that book, I decided to further dive into the NSCA's Science of Strength and Conditioning Series. This publication is good in the sense that it provides the readers at ANY athletic level some very valuable general knowledge about sport and exercise nutrition. The editor(s) waste no time in explaining the different benefits of macronutrient intake (carbohydrate, fat & protein) by dedicating a chapter to each topic (chapters 2-4). Unfortunately (for some), after chapter 6 (about mid-way through) the information provided is geared more-so towards athletes of varying sports. Thus, the "average" individual or exercise enthusiast may or may not benefit from the information. Nevertheless, as mentioned before, the editor(s) did well in providing insight into what is needed for basic nutrition program management. Chapter 11 even talks about the many different sites (some free/some not so free) that everyday gym goers (and athletes) can go to in order to receive basic nutrition/meal planning. Lastly, I would have given it 5-stars had it not been for the fact that at times it felt as though I were reading a text book versus a "normal" book intended to help change or help the readers’ perspective.
