I purchased Indus Valley Dark Brown Gel Hair Colour trusting the brand’s claim of being natural and herbal. While the packaging emphasizes the use of organic and Ayurvedic ingredients like Amla, Henna, Basil Leaf Powder, and Coconut Oil, a closer look at the full ingredient list reveals a very different story. Ingredients That Raise Concerns: Sodium Perborate: Used as an oxidizing agent; it is classified as toxic for reproduction in the EU and is banned in some countries in cosmetics. Toluene-2,5-Diamine Sulfate: A hair dye chemical known for its potential to cause allergic reactions and skin sensitization. It is restricted or banned in many countries including Canada and the EU. Picramic Acid: This is a nitro compound that is prohibited in cosmetics in the European Union due to its toxicological profile. m-Aminophenol & 4-Amino-2-Hydroxytoluene: Synthetic dye intermediates known to cause skin and eye irritation, also restricted in several global regulatory frameworks. 4-Chlororesorcinol & 2-Amino-6-Chloro-4-Nitrophenol: Hazardous hair dye ingredients with risks of allergies and toxic buildup. These are heavily scrutinized or outright banned in safer cosmetics markets. 1-Naphthol & Naphthalenediol: Derivatives of naphthalene, potentially toxic and associated with carcinogenic risk with repeated exposure. The Deceptive "Herbal" Mask: Yes, it contains natural ingredients like Henna, Amla, Coconut Oil, and Basil, but those are dwarfed by a long list of synthetic and potentially hazardous chemicals. Bottom Line: If you're looking for a truly natural, chemical-free hair dye, this is not the product. It masks itself as Ayurvedic and safe but includes several ingredients banned or restricted in other countries. Sensitive individuals, pregnant women, or those prone to allergies should especially be cautious. I do not recommend it for anyone seeking genuinely herbal or toxin-free hair color.

Buoyed by the product's promotion as a chemical-free and fully herbal hair dye, I gave it a try. It is easy and hassle free to apply and wash. After a waiting period of 40 minutes, I washed the hair with the shampoo and applied the conditioner that came in the box. It gave a very dark black colour that looked very unnatural and also left dark, stubborn stains on the skin. Of course, it left the hair soft and shiny without causing much hair fall. It also gave complete grey coverage. But, it caused burning sensation wherever I had applied and left the throat dry. It caused slight head ache too. Though it boasts of a long list of herbal, organic ingredients, it also contains many chemicals that are harmful. Conclusion is that it is as good or as bad as any other chemical hair colour. I have decided to stop using it.

I'm giving this product 5 stars. I believe it has no PPD or Ammonia. Mom always says that's good in hair products. I used the product once. My mom applied it to my head. I kept it for 20 minutes until it dried somewhat. Mom found it easy to use. Gloves were there. The orangey smell from the hair wash was refreshing. No chemical smell. Did not get a headache. Touch wood. My BFF suggested this product to me. Her mom, who is in her 70s, uses it and it works well for her, too.
