Ugly or is It?
This knife from Mora was recommended to me from Corporal's Corner and Pathfinder's Dave Canterbury. First, it has a carbon steel blade with a Scandi grind which is perfect for bush craft but what really impresses me about this knife is the quality of the blade. Super sharp and super durable. It also has a 90 degree spine for ferro rod use and is a full tang blade. The leather sheath if of decent quality but I'll probably make my own. I figured, what's another $10 on an already low priced knife. You get much more knife than what this one will cost you. The only gripe I have is the handle. It makes the knife almost ugly, but when you look at the blade, it's like...OK I can deal with the ugly handle. Another awesome product from Mora and a great value for Bush Craft tools!

Fabulous woodsman's knife
this is a wonderful knife for woodsman type tasks. the scandi grind is best for slicing off wood , making notches, carving and wittling in the smaller areas with the tip area part and hogging or slicing off wood with the blade edge. its thick enough, long enough and not too long for the woods cutting tasks, gets pretty sharp too. The handle fits very nicely and is comfortable and does not hurt the hands when gripped. the contour is nice with a swell and an ovoid shape. for woodsman tasks it is great, and seems pretty tough too. i would not expect the handle to ever get loose on this knife from cutting, twisting or anything. Thats where this knife shines as the bushcraft woodsman's knife. it also throws great sparks from a ferro rod and also lots of sparks if flinted with a flint rock (but that also scuffs up the spine). for food preparation I carry a flat grind case sodbuster. it is a folder, so not good for heavy woodwork, but its great for food processing. cutting fruit, meats etc. a scandi grind is not the best for that. there are certainly full tang flat grinds out there, but a simple folder works nice for a basically striclty food task knife.

My favorite knife
First I want to say that the general feel of the knife is awesome. It is neither too thin a blade nor too thick like the Companion that I also own. This knife blade length is just perfect also. I plan to have this knife on my belt (thanks to the leather sheath) and use it for everything. You know when you need to cut meat or cheese for a meal? Perfect knife. You know when you are fishing and you want a handy knife to clean a fish? Perfect knife. Need to dress-out a deer? Perfect knife. Need to strike a ferro rod and make a fire? Perfect knife. Need to baton a piece of wood because everything is wet and you need to get dry kindling? Perfect knife. Now, I have fantasies about a knife that can do all that and be a self-defense weapon too... not perfect, but I am not expecting to be jumped and attacked in the forest or lake. So, an ideal self defense knife would probably have a longer blade... like about 3 feet long or else a 12" long and attached to the end of a machine gun as a bayonette. But in all seriousness, I think this knife will perform all jobs I really need it for. It was paper-slicing out of the box. It shaved my hair on my hand... see photo. It is thick enough that I don't think it will ever break unless I was hitting it with a sledgehammer. And it is not heavy nor too long. A knife that is too long doesn't lend well to wood-work or carving. A knife that is too long is not really great for skinning. So, great size, great weight, great feel. I was suspicious that the lack of a quillion or guard would be a problem. It does not feel dangerous like my hand is going to slip and just slide along the blade, slicing me up. It just feels great. Some knives have such a large guard that it is actually in the way. This will be a well-used and loved knife for my outdoor adventures. Hope everyone can find their favorite knife soon as well.

Last knife you’ll ever have to buy
Great knife feels well made and solid not some cheap piece of crap that will break the first time you use it. This will be the last knife you ever have to buy unless you want one for your best friends.

Not for everybody, in time this will make a great knife!
With time and patience this will be a great knife, but it should have been a great knife right out of the box. First impression of the Garberg, feels great in the hand, nice weight, decent blade thickness, nice square spine, but Wow!, this knife is dull. And not just dull, it's a course Scandi grind. Yuck, I have several $15 Mora Companions that I've used extensively over the years All of them had a far superior finished edge and a much finer, polished Scandi grind than this Garberg. How bad is it, when I drag my fingernail down the cutting edge it chatters, feels like the edge of a file. Why Morakniv would allow the Garberg to ship with such a foul, rough, unfinished edge is dumbfounding! If I didn't have a nice collection of bench stones and strops I would return this Morakniv Garberg. However, I know in a couple hours this will be a great knife. If this course grind and edge is the norm I don't recommend this knife.... Unless you're prepared to take on the finishing and polishing of a Scandi grind or you don't care about the Scandi grind and will settle for a secondary bevel. JMHO, Huge Morakniv fail Update, with pictures Finally got the Garberg on the bench. Took the Scandi grind to a nice field polish with a stropped edge. For me it was worth the extra effort, just part of the hobby. But like the title says, "i's not for everybody". This is just to help you decide. 11 months later I changed my rating from 2 to 4 stars. The Garberg is pleasure to work with. It has held up great, and has been pretty low maintenance. Takes an edge in a reasonable amount of time and keeps the edge for a long time when used within the boundaries of its purpose of use. As expected the square spine will rain sparks from a good fero rod. It's lot of knife for the money.

What a blade from Mora and is a perfect companion to my companion. But the weight difference is noticeable but welcomed and the full tang is great. Watch it light your farrow rod like a Smaug the magnificent. The grip is the most delightful grip I’ve ever held in my hand and is harder plastic but is of extremely high quality and the texture is soft though it’s hard (It’s hard to explain you just have to try it) I’m sure the too spine is as sharp as the blade itself 😂 I highly recommend this knife.
