The author of The Defining Decade explains why the twenties are the most challenging time of life and reveals essential skills for handling the uncertainties surrounding work, love, friendship, mental health, and more during that decade and beyond. There is a young adult mental health crisis in America. So many twentysomethings are strugglingโespecially with anxiety, depression, and substance useโyet, as a culture, we are not sure what to think or do about it. Perhaps, it is said, young adults are snowflakes who melt when life turns up the heat. Or maybe, some argue, theyโre triggered for no reason at all. Yet, even as we trivialize twentysomething struggles, we are quick to pathologize them and to hand out diagnoses and medications. Medication is sometimes, but not always, the best medicine. For twenty-five years, Meg Jay has worked as a clinical psychologist who specializes in twentysomethings, and here she argues that most donโt have disorders that must be treated: they have problems that can be solved. In these pages, she offers a revolutionary remedy that upends the medicalization of twentysomething life and advocates instead for skills over pills. In The Twentysomething Treatment , Jay teaches us: -How to think less about โwhat ifโ and more about โwhat is.โ -How to feel uncertain without coming undone. -How to workโat workโtoward competence and calm. -How to be social when social media functions as an evolutionary trap. -How to befriend someone and why this is more crucial for survival than ever. -How to love someone even though they may break your heart. -How to have sex when porn is easier and more available. -How to move, literally, toward happiness and health. -How to cook your way into confidence and connection. -How to change a bad habit you may not know you have. -How to decide when so much about life is undecided. -How to choose purpose at work and in love. The Twentysomething Treatment is a book that offers help and hope to millions of young adultsโand to the friends, parents, partners, teachers, and mentors who care about themโjust when they need it the most. It is essential reading for anyone who wants to find out how to improve our mental health by improving how we handle the uncertainties of life. Review: So helpful and uplifting - I bought this book for my twenty three year old son who was struggling to find a job and seemed lost after graduating from college. I just finished reading it myself and got so much out of it - not just for my kids but also for myself! And not only does it give guidance, it gives you hope. I love how her mantra of skills over pills.. I just wish my kids could have her as a therapist! Do the next best thing.. read this book! Review: This Book Could Save a Life - As someone who coaches and counsels young adults in their 20s, I canโt recommend The Twentysomething Treatment highly enough. Dr. Meg Jay has once again delivered a crucial and insightful guide that is as essential as her groundbreaking work, The Defining Decade. For years, Iโve given copies of The Defining Decade to every young adult I work with, and Iโm excited to do the same with this new book. In my practice, I guide my clients to move beyond focusing on problems and diagnoses, encouraging them to develop the skills they need to navigate lifeโs challenges with confidence. Dr. Jay echoes this philosophy beautifully, offering practical strategies for handling the uncertainties and challenges of young adulthood. She expertly dismantles the notion that every struggle is a disorder to be treated with medication, instead advocating for skill-building and problem-solving as the true remedies for the uncertainties of this age. Her perspective is not only revolutionary but deeply compassionate, offering hope and practical advice to those navigating the tumultuous twenties. I am thrilled that this invaluable knowledge is now accessible to those who may not be able to afford therapy or coaching. The Twentysomething Treatment provides the kind of guidance and wisdom that can empower young adults to take control of their lives and make meaningful changes, even in the face of significant challenges. This book isnโt just for young adults; itโs a valuable resource for therapists, parents, and educators. If I could, I would teach a course based on the principles from The Defining Decade and The Twentysomething Treatment to every high school senior and college freshman. Dr. Jayโs insights are that impactful. If everyoneโregardless of ageโread this book, we would see a more empathetic, productive, and resilient society. In short, The Twentysomething Treatment is a vital guide for anyone invested in the well-being of young adults. Dr. Meg Jayโs wisdom is a gift, and I cannot say enough good things about her work. This book is destined to become a staple in my coaching practice, and I believe it has the power to transform lives.

readable, insightful, relevant
I found this to be helpful as a parent of young adults in their twenties. Author is experienced and non judgmental, offers a lot of food for thought and ideas. I do wish she had included footnotes to the specific studies she references.

Another great one from Meg Jay
I bought this book for my 23 year old, but thought I'd check it out first. Long story short, I ended up buying my daughter her own copy because I LOVE THIS BOOK. Like all of Jay's books, I find myself reflecting on my life in my twenties. How I could've benefited from a voice like hers!

Great read for Twentysomethings
This is a great book for young adults. It covers many topics they struggle with as twentysomethings. It's been a long time since I was that age, but it seems harder to be young now than ever. This helps show how things have changed and gives advice on how to help them navigate the world. Thank you to netgalley for the ARC.

Best book I've ever read to improve and overcome challenges of 20s
Such a great read! Very well written and is not repetitive of Dr Meg Jay's previous book. So many useful tips and insights to take away! Would definitely recommend anyone who is struggling in their 20s, there are so many great insights that you'd only learn later in life if it wasn't for this book.

It was okay
Too much conversations in the book made it boring to read. This book is more geared to teenagers than people in there 20โs.
