Tach and hour works well on 3 cylinder suzuki

Worked right out of the box. Simply opened the battery cover using a coin and pulled the plastic tab to activate it. To use, I wrapped the RPM sensor lead a few times around the outside rubber of the spark plug wire on my lawn mower, and then started up the mower. RPM displayed correctly. This was on a Honda HRX217. There are setup menu's on the RPM meter to adjust for various engine types (2-stroke, 4-stroke, etc...). For a standard 4-stroke lawn mower, it worked right out of the box.

A simple and affordable tachometer that you simply wrap the included wire around any spark plug wire at least _eight_ times, it comes on and counts the RPM's, samples a little slowly but works fine . Works best when you wrap the sensor wire several times then pinch the end of it next to the leading down bit of wire, I use a wooden clothes pin . NO ON/OFF FUNCTION . Uses inexpensive small disc batteries sold everywhere . -Nate

I don't have a tach in my Ford Van, and I wanted to know what rpm's I am running. I thought this would be helpful. It's not. I have the correct setting for a 6-cylinder 4-stroke engine. The instructions say to wrap the wire around a spark plug wire 4-5 times. Then it says if the rpm's are too low to wrap it more, and if they're too high to wrap it less. How do I know if they're low or high??? That's why I wanted a tachometer! Well, I tried wrapping the wire 5 times and it says my 3.9L 6-cylinder engine idles at 210 rpm. I don't think so. I wrapped it 8 times and it says 600 rpm. Unlikely, but closer. I wrapped it 10 times and it went down to 510 rpm. Even if I ever got it right I have no way of knowing, and zero confidence in the information. This will go in the garbage. That being said, the set up was exactly as described in the instructions. And all the items were there for smooth installation.

This unit is still working well. Easier to hook up than others. Very accurate.

Nice features. Backlit display and mounting with Velcro or stud and nut option. It worked well right out of the box. I used it to adjust the rpm on my Toro Recycler self-propelled lawn mower. Please note that the battery compartment does not appear to be sealed with an o-ring so not confident of any moisture resistant claims. The display annoyingly flashes when reading rpm but it does update relatively quick every 1/2 second. I will just keep it in my toolbox and use it as needed to avoid getting wet. I recommend this as a tune-up tool only. Not for permanent install.
