Men's XA PRO 3D Gore-TEX

Update after 4 months use - July 2026: Really brilliant shoes, have done lots of walking in these and am now finding I’m wearing them more often than not because they are so comfortable. I used to wear a regular trainer for every day use but realise now they offer no support. They are wearing well with no visible signs of premature wear. Clean up like new. The quick cord fastener is brilliant, shoes on and off so fast and foot feels supported despite no traditional laces. March 2026: Awesome shoes. Never had Salomon before but have always wanted a pair. Followed recommendations to go half a size up however this didn’t work for me. Returned and reordered my actual size 10 which was true to size. I would agree the width fit may seem tight however my right foot is wider and these shoes will give through wear. I’ve worn them all day today to break them in and they are so comfortable.

Picked up the Salomon Men’s XA PRO 3D Gore-TEX and they’ve been excellent. These are one of those shoes where you immediately feel the quality. Solid build, great support, and they feel like they’re ready to handle whatever you throw at them — trails, mud, wet grass, questionable life choices… all covered. The Gore-TEX lining does exactly what you want. Keeps water out while still being breathable enough that your feet don’t feel like they’re in a sauna. Perfect for UK weather where “dry” is more of a suggestion than a guarantee. Grip is fantastic. The sole gives you confidence on uneven or slippery ground, and they feel stable even on rough terrain. Comfort-wise, they’re surprisingly good for something this rugged. Plenty of support without feeling stiff, and once broken in, they’re great for longer walks. Quicklace system is a nice bonus too — no faffing with laces, just pull, lock, done. If I had to nitpick: – They’re not the lightest shoes out there – Slightly on the firm side initially until worn in But honestly, that’s part of what makes them feel so durable. If you want a reliable, waterproof, all-terrain shoe that just gets on with the job, these are hard to beat. Five stars. Tough, grippy, waterproof — and ready for whatever the weather decides to do next.

Ok, I admit it, I no longer run, however I have done and ran sufficient times to have warranted two knee replacements. So I am walking rather than running in this pair of shoes. What I believe that they are is very suitable for trail running, particularly over rough terrain as they provide far better support than the normal trainer and when this is combined with the rigid arch plate, they could even be used for ascents and descents on steep slopes. Combine this with gortex material which should keep feet dry, and more importantly dry off quick if the feet get submerged, make this an ideal all weather walking shoe. In terms of comfort, it is early days for me, but having walked in them with our dog to get them worn in, I feel that they could and should pose no problems for me feet. What I don't like about this shoe is the pointless quick tie auto-lacing, as I am not confident it will last, I am sure of it. I haven't had a pair of this type of shoe where I haven't had to change the laces and the laces in this shoe don't look as strong traditional laces. Additionally the clamps which holds the lace is unlikley to grip the laces as it gets subjected to the elements and stresses of bendinng your foot. No problem, just fit new laces? Nope traditional laces will be difficult to fit through the loops on these shoes, so it is a case of wait and see, I hope that i am wrong. 4 stars on the basis that these excellent shoes are spoilt by the laces.

Got a pair of these XA PRO 3D GTXs to complement my old GTX X Ultra 3s. These primarily differ in that they have a rigid plastic arch plate. Objectively, this makes them easier to use for long trail hikes over rocky ground but on the flip side they do take a bit of time to wear in and mold to the foot (the X Utras fit like a glove pretty much from day 1). The sole tread seems similar to the X Utras, in that it's quite soft so they do wear. (the X Ultra 4's look like they've got a longer lasting tread pattern). I reckon I'll get maybe 250-300kms out of them by the time the lugs under the sole are worn pretty low. I'd have liked Salomon to use a slightly harder compound: the uppers are still going strong but the soles are dying. Both mine are GTX and it's a nice to have when it's wet. I don't have any issues using them in the heat. The autolacing system works great and I find them very comfortable, even if you have to tighten them every couple of hours. You have to do that with laces too, so the convienience is great. All in all these are both great trail hiking shoes and light enough to run with for shorter distances. If you are carrying serious weight you may want something with a hardered tread compound as the do wear fairly quickly. The flip side of this is they provide sure footed grip on most surfaces, even in the wet. Recommended, I'd give them 4.6 stars, dropping the 0.4 points because I wish they had a little more durable (longer lasting) soles, but well worth it if you can get them at a discounted price.

Had similar before. I find Trainers solid and like the toe protection so which is great for hill walking. Trainers are stiff but after two weeks soften up and are now very comfortable. Like the fact they have Gortex as if you are forced to walk through a puddle your socks stay dry. Also like the quick lace system as you can set them so you can slip them on and off quickly but when they are on they are still secure on you feet. Use them to hill walk and walk the dog.

It pains me to write this review as up until today they were 5 star walkers for me, and I had no issues rebuying but Today I noticed the sole of the shoe was hanging off, both shoes, surly this has to be a strange defect I bought these end of April 2020, I have not been walking as much as I would have expected to due to lockdowns but after only 9 months of next to no real use I would expect the sole to still be attached 😅 I am gutted as they were the most comfortable footwear I’ve ever worn, perfect fit and so comfortable. I didn’t even care that the gortex wasn’t really that dry die to the comfort Really gutted they have done this as I want another pair already but I’ve never had a pair of walkers ruin like this ever, even after years of use :(

If I'd written this review a couple of years back it would have been 5 stars. Fitted like a glove, so comfy, nice and rugged and lasted a few years off general use with a couple of mountain walks thrown into the mix. When my first pair went, I reluctantly spent twice as much on the next pair, I thought it was worth it for a shoe I could rely on. However 11 months later and I'm already having to replace them, yes they were perfect at the start, but durability was lacking. So this brings us to this pair, I was reluctant to buy another pair, but when these came to at a good price and I couldn't find a suitable alternative brand, I paid the money. However I do not know what Salomon have done to their 2023 production, they have changed the insoles, still ortholite, but definitely not as comfy. Unfortunately I think this will be the tipping point for me when I next come to shop for new shoes. It's a shame as I really rated these.

Ich habe diesen Schuh vor Kurzem für den Mix aus Garten- und Outdoor Aktivitäten gekauft und bin absolut überzeugt. Nachdem ich bereits mehrere andere Premium Marken in diesem Segment getestet habe, muss ich sagen, dass der Schnitt und der Komfort bei Salomon für mich einfach perfekt sind. Da ich meine Schuhe gerne etwas lockerer trage, kommt mir die normale Passform sehr entgegen, ohne dass die Stabilität darunter leidet. Der Schuh wirkt insgesamt sehr wertig verarbeitet und das Salomon Schnellverschlusssystem ist ein echtes Highlight. Das An und Ausziehen geht damit extrem schnell und unkompliziert. Auch beim Wetterschutz punktet der Schuh: Die Gore Tex Membran hielt im ersten Test absolut dicht, während der Schuh gleichzeitig angenehm atmungsaktiv blieb. Ob die Membran dauerhaft so leistungsfähig bleibt, wird die Langzeitnutzung zeigen, aber der erste Eindruck ist hervorragend. Zusammenfassend bietet der Schuh eine ideale Balance zwischen Leistung für Wanderungen und Komfort für den täglichen Gebrauch. Ein vielseitiger Begleiter, den ich ohne Bedenken weiterempfehlen kann. Ich würde ihn definitiv wieder kaufen!

It was used for trail runs and found enhanced confidence and comfort, and goretex material lived up to its reputation making small puddles inconsequential. Although some Pasting of the sole came off in 20 days. However proactive after sales team did replace prompltly.

Quite high quality hiking shoes that working well on the rocky and slopy trails. However, even its written that its designated for summer period, in fact it feels uncomfortably warm with outside temperatures above plus 20 degrees Celsius. I have chosen my usual size and it fitted well initially. However, during the intense use, the hard front tip creates a feeling of tight compression that is not very comfortable.
