What is the difference between clay, pomade, and wax?

The three products differ according to the desired hold and finish. For a strong hold you would go for the clay or pomade. The clay has been formulated to give a matte finish, whereas the pomade has been formulated to give a “slick” finish. The wax has been formulated to provide medium hold and shine. - Pharmapacks, an authorized seller of Johnny's Chop Shop
