I needed to connect my laptop to a 4k monitor to run at 60Hz A lot of cables are just marked up as 4K but are just at 30Hz but to get the best out of a 4k monitor or tv you need this cable! Very high quality. Before buying this cable I had to contact Samsung monitor support and they told me that I must make sure that the adapter is 60Hz as most are not and that I must use the supplied Samsung high quality hdmi 4k lead and that I must buy a high quality adapter or lead to make it work - I was sceptical. This adapter worked straightaway and the monitor instantly recognised the 60Hz output. A quick change to the resolution and all was working fine. Having bought a 4K Belkin mini display port to hdmi lead 18 months ago for £50 from John Lewis, only to find it is 30Hz is annoying. I should have just bought this adapter. I can highly recommend this adapter.

Brilliant! Used this to hook up my Radeon Pro graphics card to my Panasonic TV via a home cinema receiver, connects at 1920x1080 at 60hz!! Initially had an issue with overscan and Windows desktop getting cropped around the edges so only the top half of taskbar appeared, with other edges also being cut off, this was fixed by changing the picture scaling setting in menu on the TV. Build quality excellent.

Adding on e more positive review. Got this today. This is a short stubby of active cable, nice gloss finish. Plugged it and it works straight out - no drivers, no questions asked. If you are wondering whether you can connect an older laptop with Mini DisplayPort 1.4 (I believe mine is V1.4) to a new 4K TV and also make it work at 60Hz without flickering and at full resolution, I can confirm this does the job. You should check what is the max supported resolution on your DP and mchine so you don't blame the adapter for not doing it's job well. If your PC is newer and has support for HDMI 2.0 then you can do this directly through HDMI - no need to buy this unless you need another screen. Please note for all this to work you also need the correct spec HDMI 2.0 cable - not all are made equal! The shorter the better.

Tried a few others but this one was true 4k 60hz 5.1 Dolby, no dropout, worth paying a bit extra and it is a true active adapter

I have purchased many of these adapters, all advertised as 4K 60Hz. Tested this with several apple machines but still was not able to get 4K 60Hz output using an external 4K 60Hz monitor. The only solution i found for 4K 60Hz output seems to be Mini DisplayPort (MacBook Pro/iMac) to DisplayPort (Monitor) at this time.

Works fine and confirmed 4k at 60Hz without issues.

I use it at 5K x1440 60p to connect an rtx a2000 to a Dell 49" super ultra wide monitor. Works fine

Plugged it into the same Thunderbolt port on my 2012 Mac Mini that has carried 1080p video for years without issue using a non-active HDMI adapter and a miniDisplayPort to DVI adapter before that. It’s part of the spec that to get the maximum resolution of 2560 x 1440 at 60Hz the onboard integrated GPU supports as a maximum, it needs an active MiniDisplayPort adapter or it defaults to 1080p via that port. The onboard HDMI is restricted to 1080p at 60hz by design so an adapter such as this is a requirement. It’s definitely the port that’s damaged, not the adapter or an issue with the HDMI cable because it’s a 4K capable cable that carries up to a 4K signal if used with a 2012 Mac Pro I have with an RX570 GPU. I also know it’s the port that’s damaged because it no longer carries a signal using both the non-active miniDisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a miniDisplayPort to DVI adapter and a DVI to HDMI cable that both worked at 1080p/60Hz for literally YEARS on this system. Even if I got my money back for the adapter, it wouldn’t help recoup the price of replacing the system with a used version of the same spec off eBay. They typically sell for around 2 to 3 times what I paid for this adapter but it’s not worth replacing a system so old with the same model and I can’t spare the funds to anyway. Very very annoyed!

Dieser Startech 4K-Adapter ist bisher der einzige, mit dem die Videoausgabe von meinem Surface Pro 6 auf einen externen 1440p-Ultrawide-Monitor auch über den Mini-Displayport-Anschluss am Surface Dock 1 zuverlässig (bei 3440x1440@60Hz) funktioniert. Der Aufpreis zu anderen 4K-Adaptern zahlt sich bei dieser Kombination aus, wenn am Monitor kein DP-Eingang verfügbar ist. Wichtig: um die volle Bandbreite dieses Adapters auszuschöpfen, benötigt man auch ein entsprechend ausgelegtes HDMI-Kabel!

StarTech adapters are my go-to company for almost any type of audio/video adapters. I got this one to let my wife connect her Windows Surface Pro to our bedroom TV and connect up a wireless keyboard to it to allow her to use it from anywhere in the room. Everything connected up fine, however, I failed to realize how bad 720p TVs are at dealing with connections from newer tech. Picture was terrible, any adjustments on the TV or the Surface Pro settings would make things worse. So...looks like it's time for a new TV! lol Buy the adapter. I use it on other applications in my home theater and living room TVs and everything works, sounds and looks just fine. If you have a 720p TV, get this adapter and buy a new TV like I'm about to! lol

Mejora sustancial en la resolucion HDMI para equipos con Thunderbold-2. Mediante esta adaptador además se pueden configurar dos monitores. Recomendable totalmente. Un acierto.

I tried several cables and adapters to get my Surface Dock 1 (which has 2 mini dp) to work with my two new 75Hz 1080p monitors from Koorui (22N1). The monitors would not wake from sleep. Sometimes monitor 1 would be come monitor 2 and I had to go to displays settings to change it. With another cable, there was not video at all. All those problems were solved with these adapter from Startech. The monitors wake from sleep, or a restart properly, they don't "swap sides" and I am getting full 75Hz refresh rates. These adapters are more expensive, but they work. Don't waste your time with others if you have the Surface Dock 1.
