Slowdive was an English alternative rock band that formed in 1989. The band was formed in Reading and primarily consisted of Nick Chaplin (bass), Rachel Goswell (vocals, guitar), Neil Halstead (vocals, guitar), and Christian Savill (guitar). Several drummers played with the band, including Ian McCutcheon, Adrian Sell, and Simon Scott. Signing with Creation, Slowdive's early singles received glowing press and chart placement. Their debut single, Slowdive, thinly veiled an indebtedness to the Byrds and My Bloody Valentine, with no traceable punk influence Just after Slowdive's recording, The sleepy escapist psychedelia of both Morningrise and Holding Our Breath made significant impressions on the British indie chart. The press dubbed them part of "The Scene That Celebrates Itself" - a small, loose, conglomerate of like-minded bands who could be seen at each other's shows, frequently hanging out together within the same circle. This "scene" included Lush, Moose, Swervedriver, Curve, and Blur. This anthology compiled and annotated by Mojo s Kieron Tyler is a fine stepping on point for anyone interested in the works of Slowdive. This is the first in series of releases by the band on Cherry Red. Review: Good service - Good product Review: Five Stars - A great collection of some of the band's finest material.

slowdive
having heard a slowdive song on the soundtrack to mysterious skin a few years ago i always wanted to buy their albums but never got round to it,now the shining breeze is a good introduction and i will check out their other albums. ,slowdive's dreamy ambient psychedelia just blows my mind and reminds me of the verve's debut album along with ride and more recent artists like boards of canada.i cant recommend this highly enough. perfect for listening to on cold dark winter nights.

Shoegazing heaven
Slowdive were one of the leading protagonists of the Shoegazing scene of the early 1990s. Hailing from Reading their major influences were My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth as well as Pink Floyd and the Beatles producer Phil Spectors wall of sound. The vocals are shared between Rachael Goswell and Neil Halstead and are beautiful as is the music. I'd recommend listening on headphones at night with a glass of wine. If you like this another album I'd recommend is Rides first album Nowhere Nowhere: Remastered .

shining breeze
An excellent album for any fan of indie music, totally laid back, similar to ride or galaxy 500. Slowdive definitely a hidden gem, can't believe i missed them at the time! Cannot fault this collection, absolute bargain!

Cottony: another kind of Ambient
This compilation gathers the best tracks of Slowdive, the project of Rachel Goswell and Neil Halstead. CD1 has guitars to the fore but remains slow-paced, à la Cocteau Twins. Except for the last track, which is reggae-dub influenced. As is the first track of CD2. The rest of CD2 is ambient, proto-Americana (a prelude to The Mojave 3 project that was to follow Slowdive) and pop (the good cover of Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood's classic 'Some Velver Morning'). As such, the whole of the album gives "shoe-gazing" a rather good name. Or, perhaps, it wasn't "shoe-gazing" at all in the first place?

A Great Introduction to Shoegaze Gurus
This is a great introduction and overview of the band Slowdive’s musical catalog. Seminal tracks and Singles as well as b-sides that are representative of their incredible output are included giving the listener a good idea about the band’s dreamy shoegaze psychedelic style.

Great Overview
of Slowdive's oeuvre for the the curious who haven't heard them before or for those who want all their best work in one tidy package. The price is reasonable for a two disc collection, too.
