Powerful router with good guest access options.
I was tasked with installing wifi into a building that needed a couple of static devices (a laptop and printer) and up to 20 guest devices. The previous ISP supplied router was in no way shape or form up to this task. The first router I got, I had lots of problems with. Setup was painfully slow and kept crashing and guests were complaining that the wifi SSID wasn't appearing, or took up to 5 minutes to appear. Not good! I tried changing every setting imaginable and was still having problems. I came to the conclusion that it was a duff copy and requested a replacement (thankfully Amazon make this a painless experience, and I had a new router with me on the Sunday morning, having only requested the replacement Saturday evening!) Totally different experience this time. The new router was very fast to setup, and allowed me the following options which were exactly what I needed: 2.4ghz and 5ghz set up as separate networks with separate SSID's and passcodes. This enabled me to spread the load by giving some people access to the 2.4ghz and some the 5ghz. A separate sub network with another two separate SSID's, also covering 2.4 and 5ghz frequencies with a guest access code. Device prioritisation. The router enabled me to prioritise the static devices (this is as simple as drag and drop) so, in the event of the network getting busy, these two devices always worked at the highest speed available. Remote access via iPhone/iPad app. This works very very well indeed and allows you to carry out tasks as well as monitor the network, even if you're not in the building! This is a brilliant feature. Overall it's a great router for the money and packed with a load of professional features.

quality kit
Did a lot of research and spec comparisons before buying this modem router. I discovered that there are several 'flavours' of ADSL and consequently checked my broadband supplier BT. This high spec modem supports them all. Importantly for me it (eventually) works with my MAC's OSX 10.7. However be warned the setup software refused run despite the onscreen instructions confusingly stating it supported OSX 10.6 and later versions?! A visit to the Linksys website & a download later (lesson: don't throw your old modem away!) and it self-installed. The web browser interface has an extensive range of features and looks very much like the one I used on my other Linksys router. I selected this model because of its speed (it has a Gigabit ethernet) and wireless range after two days it appears to be working well and living up to my expectations.

Pain to setup ** if you use Plusnet you need these settings ** no longer a Cisco product!
Purchased this to try and prove to our ISP that the intermittent line fault we're experiencing isn't anything to do with our (ageing) Draytek router. Rather than buying a new Draytek (£200.00+), I purchased this at £30.00 to see if it would prove or disprove the line fault. Given the HUGE price difference between the two routers, I was willing to give this Linksys a bit of grace. Firstly, it is a PAIN to setup. The 'wizard' is only for ADSL connections - not VDSL. So if you're on Fibre you'll need to do the setup manually which isn't straight forward. If you're on Plusnet, as well as their standard connection settings you will need the following:- Physical type: DSL (not ethernet) DSL Model: PTM (not ATM) VDSL2 profiles: AUTO ** IMPORTANT ** without the next two setting, the Router will show as connected but not synced (ie no internet) ** Enable VLAN: Check VLAN ID: 101 ******* Next drop down is PPPOE, and then fill in your username from Plusnet and password. Netgears and TP-Link detect automatically, so even on a £30.00 router this setup is poor. The next disappointment, Linksys used to be owned by Cisco - Cisco manufacture world renowned networking products. Cisco sold Linksys to Belkin, who have made some pretty poor networking kit. I was a bit surprised and disappointed to find Belkin branding when configuring the router. In any case, the router is working, we have internet and is so far stable. We'll see if it irons our our connection problems or whether they persist (which won't be a fault of this router),,,

Reliable, fast, quiet and runs cool
Lots of opinions and varying needs for home networks these days... I am one of those sad demanding tech heads, in IT for two decades, I have wired cat6 ethernet and streaming media in every room in my home network. I rate this modem router highly, I like that its very basic, even spartan with no frills or fancy software. The interface isn't flashy and doesn't have any unique features but what it does it does efficiently and reliably. I threw out all my old devices, saved loads in electricity in the process and simplified my server rack and my networking as a whole by using just this device. Only yesterday did I appreciate how painless and effortless my network had been running on the back of this device for the past two years when I lost it due to a lighting strike and my surge protector failed to save it. I am ordering my second one, perhaps the upgraded model, but the very least I can do is post a good review of the service I got from this little gem. I simply can't fault it, so 5 stars from me!

Self-inflicted frustration and anguish
Yes, I accept the fact that i brought all of this upon myself... My wife will no doubt gloat in delight as the question is asked 'why did you want to change the router anyway'? She's right. The short version: After over 8 hours of phone calls, too-ing and fro-ing between BT and Linksis support the Cause was declared hopeless, Linksys hanging head in shame (or should be) and the unit boxed up to be returned for another Linksys refund. The longer version: Initial hope of proving the 'Easy 123' setup correct was quickly erased when i was told to 'check the cables have been correctly inserted into the 'Power Modem' (a misnomer if ever there was one). Checked and double checked, rebooted and reconnected. .... pause...... ' are the cables correctly inserted into the power modem' (can you see where this is heading?). I brief chat with a very pleasant Linksys customer support person left me resetting the router once again whilst i phoned BT to check the log in credentials. BT busy period (between 7am and 9pm) meant an hour wait, listening the recorded voice mentioning that I really was still in a queue. Well i'm glad they felt the need to reassure me. Another brief chat with BT sales ( i kid you not) before being transferred to 'the proper department' and yes my login details were correct. Back to the Linksys setup and still no connection and a friendly reminder to check the cable connections. Another call to the helpful folk at Linksys resulted in a more direct approach to manually setting up the router. Enter IP address, check the PPPoA/E, change some numbers, check some boxes, do this and that, hop backwards whilst recanting the recipe for beef wellington in Cantonese and bobs your uncle..... well, err... no.... still no connection (to the utter disbelief of the support operative). Take the internet tail from the back of the router and replace directly with ADSL cable (?).. ok… phone goes dead…… Call Linksys customer support again and go through the same steps after repeating my number and details again. A perplexed support lady offers condolences and regret and asks me to do the same again. ‘But the phone will go dead and the router still won’t work!’ I reply…. “Hmm, but you need to do it…. Dutifully, like a mouse approaching the cheese in the trap I do it again… damn… phone goes dead again. After brief period of reflection and an attempt at controlling my now escalating frustration I call again…. “you need to put the internet tail back in the router, the last customer services advice was incorrect”. Unbelievably I now place complete trust in a new member of the Linksys-Opperative-Support (Errant, Random Services) and attempt a different number of steps to make this ‘easy 123’ setup, finally work. Passwords checked, usernames confirmed, cables tested in old BT hub, cables definitely plugged into the correct holes, lights flashing, configuration checked yet again……. Restart hub, rest hub, check all over again…… dead…… no internet connection. Test cables and connection on old BT hub and hey-presto…. Internet works! A pity that Linksys cannot boast the same. “Download the latest firmware, that is the last thing you can do” I’m told. But…. The last update to the firmware for both the ‘power modem’ and the router were back in 2014! Surely my router would have been shipped with the correct version? I was correct…. There is only one version…. Ermm… version 1.0. ‘”reinstall it anyway, it might need to be re-flashed”. So I do it… unbelievably I do it. Talk about white-coat-syndrome, but I trust these inane words and spend another half an hour connecting, downloading, disconnecting and reconnecting only to replace the ‘old’ firmware with the ermm… same firmware. Reset the system once again and low and behold….. nothing…. Still dead. At this point I have spent almost 8 hours on the phone to various folk and had some interesting conversations (did you know that BT at currently the ‘home’ of European football?...too embarrassing to be the home of English football). Time to box the plastic rubbish up and send back to Amazon. The only plus point throughout the procedure to get a working answer from the customer support team was that I was continually reminded that the unit had a 2 year no-quibble warranty…. That’s nice although I’m not sure it’s potential use as a paperweight might require such a warranty. It’s with some kind of satisfaction that I pack the various plastic parts up and seal it for return, I’ve wasted 8 hours, become frustrated with constantly repeating my details etc but at least I know that I’ll never purchase anything from Linksys again or any subsidiary company. It’s not until I conclude my days dealings with the last customers support gadgey that I’m made aware that my BT internet supply might be VDSL2 and not ADSL. What are the implications of this? What do I need to do? Can I actually make this rubbish work? Shall I invest another few hours and finally reap the rewards of the promised increased security, range, focused beamforming (complete tosh by the way….study digital beamforming and the inverse sinc function…). It’s a tough question. Im informed by Linksys support that I’ll need to get the correct settings and numbers from BT directly. I take the bait and call BT. For the foresighted amongst you may well now be tutt-ing and shaking your head… yes… you’re right I should resigned myself to giving up. Another 30—odd minutes waiting for some guru from BT to put me out of my coalesced frustration and the phone is answered… I excitedly explain my request…. Then the (very understanding) chap from BT tells me the truth.. Yes, the supply is VDSL2 and as such requires any number of combinations of settings and testing to obtain the correct combination….and it’s not something BT support…. Have to find it on forums etc… The router remains repacked and ready for return to Amazon. As the great bard ‘Vinnie Jones’ one uttered…. “it’s been emotional”

Easy Setup but very poor performance
This modem router seems to get great reviews on many trusted websites. I bought it to replace a Netgear DG834 and a Netgear wireless access point. The setup is incredibly easy and that is the reason it is getting two stars instead of one. After setup I found that the wireless performance is incredibly poor. This may in part be down to my house which is old and has very thick walls, but my brother in the next room gets a decent connection to his PC. As well as poor wireless, it does not seem to be able to save port forwarding information. I attempted to add exceptions for Steam three times and each time it indicated it had saved the information but on checking the table it had not. These problems continued even after an update to the latest firmware. I should really have done a simple search on the net before buying as plenty of people on multiple forums have highlighted the problems I am having. Now I'm going to try a Billion modem router which on investigation has a high reputation amongst users and not only review websites.

It's a kind of magic (X3000)
I was tired of using off-the-shelf-one-year-working Modem Routers. Unfortunately, the device provided by Sky is just horrid, and I wanted to finally buy something that will serve as a wifi and hard-wire router (modem varies depending on your neighborhood's available network, or which company you use. I also was supposed to move countries and didn't know the broadband options there). I bought this used from Amazon, and I have it for more than a year now - and boy, this is the real deal right here! I use it with 2/3 devices connected with RJ45 cables (Sat-TV, a streamer and a PC) and several devices on wifi (smartphones, tablets, laptops). The wifi strength is really good, even if it's placed in a "safe room" with concrete walls. This thing NEVER DROPS the connection. The setup was quick every time I had to do it. Basically, you connect the Modem you got from the provider to a specific port, connect the other devices you want, start-up the Cisco Connect program and 20 seconds later it's all connected. This thing is the best router I've owned to this day, and when it's done and dead it'll be tough to find a better one in that price range.

Perfect when you update firmware
I bought this to replace my BT HH3 which was working fine for the internet, but would not pair well with my wireless printer (HP p1102w). I got tired of having to powercycle the BT router and wake up the printer everytime I wanted to print, sometimes unsuccessfully - this was not a problem I'd had with the (free) Sky router. (I had previously spent several hours trying to find a different work around with the settings.) I also could not AirPrint or ePrint, and sometimes I found the internet stalling. So those are the boxes I was looking to tick, and I'm pleased that so far all but one (ePrint) works for me - and I'm optimistic that I can fix that one with a printer driver update. I looked carefully at the reviews on this site and the US one before choosing this one, and many of the complaints seem to have finally been resolved with the latest firmware update. I found I had trouble with cookies which was resolved, luckily, with the firmware update. I can understand the frustration of other reviews on here, as there were basic issues with the firmware and it seem to take months before Linksys bothered to fix it. But others report elsewhere that this latest firmware is solid and has been thoroughly test so be sure to upgrade. The latest firmware is 1.0.5. It's easy to upgrade once you know how - download the bin file from the Linksys website, then in the router's web server, go to Administration > Firmware upgrade and point to the bin file. You might be able to do this from Cisco Connect, I just used the webserver which is typically at 192.168.1.1. I also advise others to set up the router using the webserver rather than Cisco Connect, which has some questionable terms and conditions that allow them to monitor some of your internet usage information. If anyone can help me figure out how to uninstall this from my router (it requires me to use my WPA login/password for router access) please do suggest. So, 5 stars for proper functionality, but -1 star for the niggles above (firmware issues and Cisco Connect). I also chose this product because of the possibility of using the USB port as a cheap network drive. I might update this review with an extra star if this proves fantastic.

Nice product
This is an amazing product. I have been using it for past 3 years. Initially I set it up with Airtel V-fiber service which required a standard phone cable to be plugged into the back of the router. Later I moved to a location which had a dedicated fiber connection. It required a LAN cable to be plugged into the back of the router. Initially, I had set the product as a WIFI gateway which enabled it to work seamlessly with Airtel service. Once the moved to a location which has a dedicated fiber connection. I reconfigured the device , so that it can work as a dedicated router, and it works great. It emits 2 WIFI connections on 2.4 and 5 GHz band and 2 guest WIFI's as well.

Prodotto di ottima qualità costruttiva, di facile istallazione sia per la parte hardware che per quella software. Funzionante al 100%. Preso ad un prezzo molto competitivo. Purtroppo la sezione riguardante il media sharing non risultava compatibile con la nostra rete casalinga. L'oggetto è stato restituito. Come sempre la rete di Amazon per quanto riguarda consegna, ritiro del reso e rimborso è stata perfetta!

Gran gran modem/router
Compré este modem/router porque el anterior y todos los que he tenido antes no funcionan muy bien y hay que resetearlos cada poco tiempo. Este lleva un mes funcionando y todavía va como un reloj suizo. Muy buena compra y al ser Amazon el mediador no he tenido ningún tipo de problema y me ha llegado rapidísimo.
