Easy to use and makes proper espresso-style coffee
I bought this because I wanted a proper stovetop coffee maker rather than just relying on instant coffee, and I can honestly say the coffee from this tastes so much nicer. It feels a bit more like a ritual as well, which I really like. The main thing I think people need to know is that the “3 cup” size does not mean 3 normal mugs. It makes about 2 small espresso-style coffees in my opinion, or enough for one stronger coffee depending on how you drink it. If you prefer an Americano, you can just add hot water afterwards, which is what I would do. It’s very easy to use once you’ve done it once. You fill the bottom part with water up to the little valve, then put your ground coffee into the filter basket. I wouldn’t press the coffee down too much, just fill it level. Then you screw the top and bottom together properly and put it on the hob over a low to medium heat. After a few minutes the coffee starts coming up into the top section. Once it’s finished bubbling and the top part has filled, it’s ready. It sounds more complicated written down than it actually is. The coffee comes out strong, rich and much nicer than instant. It definitely has more of that proper espresso-style taste. I also like that if you want it milder, you can just add hot water or milk rather than changing the way you make it. It looks really nice as well and feels like a proper classic coffee maker. It’s one of those things that looks good in the kitchen and also genuinely does the job well. One thing to be aware of is the size. If you’re expecting to fill a big mug straight from it, you may find it smaller than expected, so I do think it helps to understand before buying that this is more for espresso-style coffee or smaller servings. For me that’s absolutely fine, but it’s worth knowing. Cleaning it is straightforward too. I just let it cool, take it apart, empty the coffee grounds and rinse it out. It’s simple once you get into the routine of using it. Overall I’m really pleased with it. The coffee tastes great, it’s easy to use once you know the steps, and it feels like a much nicer way to make coffee at home.

Solid and reliable little Moka Pot
A Moka Pot is one of the oldest forms of making coffee and, even all these years later, this little Italian coffee gadget still continues to make excellent coffee. Having never used one until really getting into coffee, I decided to order one and give it a try. You’ll often see this come up on social media marketplaces, and it’s often because people don’t know how to use them and end up with bitter, awful coffee. If you do your research online and have a quick read/watch of a couple of videos, you can soon get the hang of it. When grinding your coffee beans, you want to grind fairly coarse, but not as coarse as a French Press. You want the pieces to be fairly small but not espresso consistency, otherwise the coffee will be too bitter. The grind consistency you need can easily be achieved with a blade grinder. You can of course use pre-ground coffee, but you can’t beat the taste of freshly ground beans. This particular Moka Pot is pretty small and would be ideal for one or two people. The coffee it makes is a lovely alternative to espresso from an espresso machine and makes a great base for a milk based drink, and can provide you with delicious coffee that you’d find in your local cafe. Just make sure to use a towel or something to pick up the bottom of the Moka Pot when you’ve filled it with hot water, as it gets very hot very quickly. Once you’ve brewed your coffee over a medium heat, go and run the base of it under a cold tap to stop it from brewing. After you’ve poured your coffee, just rinse out the top of the Moka Pot to remove any leftover coffee residue and towel dry to prevent rusting. This is a handy little coffee gadget and would be great to take on travels, providing you have a gas hob at your destination. If you want to use it on an induction hob, you’ll have to buy one that works on that heat source. This makes a great gift for someone wanting to venture into the world of home brewing and, when used correctly, makes a tasty cup of coffee.

Bialetti moka a coffee maker,
This is a beautifully simple coffee percolator beloved by the Italians, and by me!. However it’s very important to read the instructions before using for the first time. My order this time was for a 3-cup size 130ml. I have found both the 2cup and 1cup sizes just too small. Delivery of my latest one came next day but a bit later than scheduled in early evening rather than the afternoon. These are easy to clean after use and reasonably priced. I use mine over gas, with brew time about 4-5 minutes using ground coffee with no leakage at all.

Great Coffee - BUT
I eventually bought a much more expensive Moka Pot from a different brand because: 1. The plastic handle became brittle and broke. It's pathetic anyway. 2. The screw threads were never great and would occasionally hiss (the safety valve never blew). Coffee would also dribble out of the joint. 3. The Aluminium marked my glass top hob. Despite information on the Bialetti site that seemed to indicate that it wouldn't. 4. The water reservoir seems to grow Aluminium Oxide any time it is left unused and even a little damp for a few days. At home the Moka Pot is used at the weekends. The Moka Express would invariably need scrubbing - same trouble at work any time I took a few days off. Dangerous? I don't know, certainly off-putting. Follow up Sat 5th March 2016. 1. Purchased a replacement handle which while still a bit delicate has been problem free. 2. Threads in top-section scraped of excess aluminium until top section sits properly on gasket stops coffee dribble! 3. Still marks glass top - sigh! 4 Dry completely before storage, ignore Aluminium Oxide you'll be a happier person. Note: I use a Moka Pot at least once a day, even so, I'd expect to get more than few months out of it. I loved the coffee though. After having had several of these pots I'll remark on the following: 3 Cups of Moka Pot is about 1 third of a biggish mug. Smooth and strong it'll stand a bit of dilution to make a long drink if that's your pleasure. Espresso ground coffee is a bit fine, a coarser grind is better. It's often said you shouldn't clean these pots that the residue from previous coffees enhances the flavour - be a bit sensible, there is a difference between oily residue and rancid!

Elegant Simplicity Which Works
Ok, ok it's not Espresso because it operates with 1.5 bars of pressure and an Espresso machine works at 9 bars. Well, the more expensive and higher up in the range Espresso machines do. But what the pundits are not telling us is that up until 1948 that pressure was the only Espresso there was which was why the Moka pot was Espresso for the home. So while it's not on a par with modern Espresso machines it's still Espresso as it originally was. On to the 3-cup Bialetti Moka Express: Fill the bottom section with cold water up to just below the valve, drop in the funnel and loosely fill it with ground coffee ensuring it's level and there are no grounds on the rim and then screw on the top section and place it over a low heat. When it gurgles the coffee is done so remove it from the heat. That's all it takes to make very high quality coffee. Some people will say to fill it with hot or even boiling water. But if you do that you'll first of all burn your hand because it will get hot. Secondly you won't get a full pot of coffee because a lot of the water will uncondense and flow back into the lower chamber. A moka pot works best when started with cold water over a low heat. Again some people say to adjust the strength of the coffee by adjusting the amount of coffee while others complain that it doesn't make full cups: No, no, no. The funnel is still filled and the strength is adjusted by diluting the finished coffee with water for an Americano or milk for a Cappuccino or Latte. Remember what I said at the beginning: It's Espresso so what you get is Espresso shots, in fact 3 of them in the 3-cup size and what we usually but not always do with Espresso shots is dilute them. If the coffee is too strong after dilution we use a lighter roast coffee and if it's too weak we use a darker roast coffee. Lastly the quantity of coffee of the 3-cup size: The bottom chamber is filled to just below the valve with cold water and thats around 150ml. What you end up with in the top pot is around 120ml of coffee because some water is left in the bottom chamber due to steam getting cooler and turning back into water. When the coffee is diluted with water 1:1 there is enough to fill a regular mug but you might like to dilute it 1:2. What that gives you is an "Americano" which is basically one or more Espresso shots turned into a weaker coffee we more usually get from a Cafetiere, Filter or Percolator. For a Capuccino or Latte the dilution is more usually 1:2 or even 1:3. But in that case don't forget your Bialetti Tuttocrema Frother . In conclusion my rating is of course 5 stars. If I could give it 10, 20 or even 100 stars that's what I would give it and more. It's an Italian classic first made in the 1930's and the first of its kind. If you want the latest do everything miracle or fad you won't like this. But if you just want the best coffee you ever tasted you'll love it.

bialetti Italian for 'great coffee'
what can i say i love this new stove top accessory. its been around since 1933, but still looks ultra cool and makes a great expresso black coffee. Warning by "3 cups" this means 3 expresso cups, I'd say i'm a regular tea coffee drinker, I'm not addicted to coffee or cafeine like some, but i do enjoy a good cup. I found you can drink this neat (aprox 150ml ie half a cup) but it gets me wired very quickly, where my head goes fuzzy and i feel drunk. For sleep don't drink after 3pm. or for a strong americano add boiling water from the kettle, or even split it in two and add boiling water. If your entertaining get a larger pot, otherwise a 3 cup will need refilling time after time, this is a perfect size for two or one Surprisingly simple to use, made a perfect cup first time, 1, fill the base with water, 2, fill the filter with ground coffee and pack it down 3, screw the bottom half to the top half tightly 4, turn on the gas and place the pot on top 5. nothing happens and you keep thinking is it working. and i kept lifting the lid and it was still empty 6. wait upto 4-5 mins 7. Listen for the Gurgle / Splush when these noises finish lift the lid and its full (magic) 8. pour a perfect black expresso with no spills due to the well designed spout rovesciare il bicchiere finally buy one in italy so many more designs and colours and a good price even in euro's. I may book a holiday to fill up my suitcase

Makes the best homemade coffee
Best coffee maker I've ever had. I have been using nespresso pods for a while now and they're great, but expensive. Having found I'm going through more at home since lockdown I started to go back to the old cafetiere but all the little bits in my coffee were always annoying. Like most, I wasn't sure which size bialetti to get and so went for the smallest 3 cup. I'm totally hooked and this makes the best homemade coffee. My husband was sceptical and wanted to carry on with pods but now wants this everytime I'm making one! This 3 cup size makes about 3 'shots ' of espresso which I top up with hot water and add warm milk to make two lovely white coffees in smallish mugs; you could easily use all of it for one person if you used a big old mug and wanted a strong one. I know for espresso purists it doesn't make a true espresso (no creamer top) but if you just want great coffee this is for you. I found putting hot water in the bottom to speed it up as some people suggest worked fine but made it hard to assemble as it was so hot to handle, cold water is easier and only takes a few minutes. Top tips are to remember not to use the handle to tighten it (its easy to forget) when you put it together or you'll damage it and make sure your heat doesn't go uparound the sides. Should only be wiped not washed and definitely never in dishwasher. That might make it seem a bit faffy but having never used one before I found it very simple and quick to get the hang of and the coffee is the absolute best.

Excellent, Tasty, and much easier to use than expected!
I'd been wanting to buy my house mate a proper coffee maker to replace the instant coffee She downs every morning for a while now. I hesitated because She has a routine down that involves very little time and effort before She gets on with her day. After checking with a few friends I was convinced to try this one. I have to say these little pots have transformed both of our morning rituals and fills the house with a wonderful coffee aroma that is hard not to like! I bought the 3cup one first and then realised it was actually 3 espresso cups so then ordered the 6 cup for her. Even though I don't drink coffee regularly myself I kept the little one in case I wanted a small cup myself once in while or for a guest and now I make myself a cup most mornings. First, it was really easy for me to figure out how to dial in my preferred strength and make consistently tasty coffee. I watched one video, made 2 cups that were a little strong and then I had it dialled in perfectly. My house mate now has 2 full cups every morning and really seems to enjoy her new artisan-like morning routine. Cleaning is simple: unscrew, remove grounds and seal, and rinse/wipe thoroughly with water (no soap to develop your seasoned effect!) All in all about 5mins to brew and a few minutes to clean once it's cooled. Love the simplicity and low-tech nature of it and as I said, tastes great. We only slightly raise our noses at instant coffee drinkers now! :)

If you want a proper moka pot you need a Bialetti. It makes great coffee if you use quality beans / ground coffee.

Moka ohne Schnickschnack – Einfach, ehrlich, lecker

Drink espresso coffee at home
My first moka pot was from IKEA but it was recalled due to safety issues. Now I buy from a more reputable brand at good price, so far so good, but it's a bit small.
