Introducing Evolutionary Psychology: A Graphic Guide

I like the pictures in the book. So entertaining yet so enlightening. But it took so long to download due to the file size, I suppose. The price is about right and convenient. So that is why think it deserve a five stars rating. I will recommend this to my friends with the same interest.

I give the book an average review because I have not read it yet. I REALLY should. I am hopeful.

Ideal for those wanting to get an overview of the subject

Covered a lot easily. A good history of the subject. A bit out of date on some facts? e.g. Evolution in general has changed a bit..... in billions of years ago... in book 3.5 life, 0.6 multicellular, 0.5 land-dwelling, 0.05 primates current thought 3.8 life, 1.6 multicellular, 1.2 land-dwelling, 0.05 primates e.g. Language level of animals in book stated to be VERY basic... in book "chimpanzees have never succeeded in learning more than a few dozen words" current thought Washoe supposedly 350 words in sign language, Nim Chimpsky 125 words Recent study of wild chimpanzees in Côte d'Ivoire found 390 unique, structured vocal sequences

This is an excellent introduction to the field. I highly recommend it to many people I meet. Michael Beitler, Ph.D.

A good introduction for people with virtually no previous knowledge. I enjoy these graphic intros even though I know that they are not academic texts and should not be overly criticized for their brevity. However, nothing is said about the origins of human violence towards other humans and religious behavior. It seems to me that these aspects of human behavior would have strong roots in our evolutionary past. Why are we so violent? Why do we persist in believing in imaginary beings? And related - why, if we are evolved from egalitarian group behavior, are we so brutally insensitive to our fellow man? Many more questions are generated than answered. This is a good thing, but still, I feel that something was lacking. The reading list at the end of the book is not likely to answer these questions either. I was left wondering if there were political reasons for not addressing these concerns

These mini-library books seem like an ideal idea and look fun and may be interesting. But honestly once you crack these open they are super-dry, poorly written and often illustrations are not so cool as confused/distracting/strange. It's like someone took a book on the subject at hand, cut it in half and threw half of it in a blender.

I read this book which I found really helpful and informative about how your behavior and thought evolve via genetically or environmentally. Last but not least Darwin's bio-psychology. Thanks to all.

Love the short insights into the different aspects of evolutionary psychology. It is truly a fascinating subject which has the potential to explain many aspects of the mind. This book does a great job of giving the reader a glimpse into the fascinating reality.
