Mama’s milk has always been a part of Jack’s life, but that’s changing now that he’s a toddler, and that’s hard. But Mama’s cuddling arms, lullaby voice, and thump-thump heartbeat won’t change, even when the milk is gone. The end of breastfeeding can be a deeply emotional transition for a mother and child: a major source of comfort for a child is going away, as is a big component of a woman’s identity as a mother. This book addresses the psychological aspects of weaning, focusing on the mother-child relationship and additional ways a mother provides comfort. This book is for toddlers and moms who are getting ready to start weaning, or are already in the process of weaning from breastfeeding. “ Loving Comfort is about the life of a nursing relationship for a mother and her son. With beautiful illustrations and wisdom from a mother who has been there, Loving Comfort is as much for mothers as it is for children who are learning about weaning. ” — Jessica Barton, MA, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Review: Sweet book, toddler loves it - Weaning my almost 2 year old and we love this book. He asks for it every nap and night. We are down to just two short sessions. I love how it talks about weaning and brings in the thump thumping of mama’s heart. I wanted to avoid books that have any woo woo aspect because my milk is not going to the moon! Review: Just what I was looking for! - Just what I was looking for! I'm trying to gently wean my newly 2 year old and she loves this story, had me read it on repeat the first day we got it. It covers night weaning and daytime boundaries (both of which we had already done) and the gradual transition to no more nursing at all. The entire time, it emphasizes the love, warmth, and care that Mama always offers, even when it isn't from milk. The illustrations are lovely and the text flows smoothly. Highly recommend!

Sweet book for explaining weaning — not a miracle worker, though. Plus helpful for educating dads!
This is such a sweet book. It validates the feelings of the little one who needs to wean, while also helping them understand that the end of nursing doesn’t mean that their mother will stop loving and comforting them. My 3 year old was a nursing addict, and this made things easier — but weaning him was still hard on everyone, because no book can make a nursing addict suddenly ready to stop. As a side benefit, this book helped my husband understand why weaning was so difficult for our son. My husband has always been 100% onboard with breastfeeding and would have supported continuing to breastfeed longer if I had wanted to, but after reading this book, he mentioned that he had never really thought about *why* little ones like nursing so much. He thought it was mostly the flavor, the proximity to the mom, and maybe oral motor instincts, but he didn’t really think about the emotional closeness, the smell of milk, the warmth, the sound of the mom’s heartbeat, etc. I think that helped him understand why weaning was so hard.

My 2 1/2 yo Loves this book! Made Weaning easy!
We got this book because she just wasn’t ready to let go. She LOVES the illustrations and within 3 days she skipped nursing and chose cuddles instead. Even though the pictures were about Jack, the story was about my daughter - I just had to read it with her name and pronouns! Her weaning journey differed a little from Jack’s because we kept the night nursing until the end. It was contextually easy to switch the order in which I read the pages so it fits my daughter’s nursing journey. She has been weaned for over a month now and still regularly asks to read Loving Comfort. It’s good for both of us every time she picks up the book! Con: Typo on one of the last pages. “Mama scent” needs corrected to “Mama’s scent” Suggestion: It would be so cool to be able to customize the name/pronouns. I did get tongue twisted a few times when first reading it to my daughter as her story.

Great for weaning toddler, no matter how often they nurse
This is a beautiful book on a topic rarely covered. I have a three-year-old daughter who we are currently trying to wean. We do not cosleep, and she only nurses for the most part at night time before bed. She tends to relate well to, and poll concepts from, books really well. This book follows a little boy Jack who learns he can always have mamas warm snuggles anytime he wants but as he gets older he no longer needs her milk. It does a good job of acknowledging the child sadness at first, and the emotions that he goes through. Then, in simple terms, you see Jack become more comfortable with the idea and eventually he doesn’t want Bouvy anymore and stops asking for it. It’s very well done and I like it very much. I do feel it is a little expensive for a paper back book, that is my only complaint.

Great for weaning an almost 2 year old
This was our favorite weaning book that we found for our daughter who is almost 2. She was not interested in giving up nursing. We read her this story and put it into our story rotation. She was intrigued and would ask for it at times. We would talk to her about weaning and refer to “Jack” from the story. It definitely helped in our weaning process.

Great writing, but terrible quality and shipping
The content of this book is excellent, but the physical production is a letdown. It’s clearly a Print on Demand copy with flimsy paper and poor print quality. To top it off, "2-day shipping" was postponed twice and took nearly a week to arrive. 5 stars for the author, but 1 star for the manufacturer and delivery.

Tolles Buch!
