The epic action of this sci-fi thriller unfolds in a near future inwhich an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day ofcombat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicidemission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicablythrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combatover and over, fighting and dying again…and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries withincreasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski(Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, eachrepeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy. Review: Stuck on repeat! - One of my favorite time-loop movies, and if I'm being honest, one of my favorite films in general. The concept is so tight and well-executed that it never feels repetitive, just sharper and more intense each time the day resets. Tom Cruise is crazy, but as usual turns in a great performance going from completely out of his depth to battle-hardened in a way that actually feels earned. It’s smart, funny, emotional when it needs to be, and packed with incredible action. I can rewatch it anytime and never get tired of it. Review: Fantastic movie, Flawless 4K execution - I’ve been counting down the days until my pre-ordered Edge of Tomorrow 4K disc arrived. I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t an earlier 4K release, but I literally fist-pumped when I saw the pre-order announced. I’ve been replacing my standard Blu-Ray collection with 4K discs as they become available. Some are absolutely fantastic, some are barely acceptable. I’m probably up to around 100 4K discs now, but I don’t think I’ve wanted to see another 4K release this much. Here’s why: I’m a little surprised that Edge of Tomorrow wasn’t a bigger hit. It’s a nearly perfect sci-fi film with everything going for it. It’s funny, action-packed, great cast, and good writing with a great storyline. It’s even got romance if that wasn’t enough. Blunt and Cruise have great chemistry and they match each other’s energy level perfectly. It’s hard for Tom Cruise to be upstaged in a film, but Emily Blunt manages to pull it off. If you didn’t know better, you would swear she was the bigger star just by her presence on the screen. Sadly this is the time we see Bill Paxton in a major movie, but he absolutely nails his performance. The amazing thing about him is that he never outwardly tries to be funny in this role; he just is. The ensemble cast is better than your average sci-fi film and everything just works. The 4K presentation is very good. It’s not quite a reference disc like Dune or the Revenant, but that’s due more to the source material. There just aren’t many bright colors to take full advantage of the UHD format. Fortunately the black levels look fantastic, which is good because there are a lot of them. I’m very happy that I switched over to an OLED TV to take full advantage of a film like this. The resolution is great, with only the slightest hint of grain in a few shots. The resolution is so good that I even noticed the limits of the CGI in one scene that I hadn’t noticed before. The audio is fantastic. Vocals come through clearly with a very immersive sound experience. There are definitely other films out there with more active surround effects, but they often seem contrived. This audio experience feels very natural. One of my favorite effects is Cage running around a dune circling the mimic. It’s spectacular. This is one of my top five favorite sci-fi movies of all time and I’m happier than ever to have it on 4K. If you already have the Blu-Ray and a good 4K upscaling player, you may not notice that much of an improvement, but it is there. I’ve noticed a few split-second flaws here or there in many 4K releases, but I didn’t pick up on a single one in Edge of Tomorrow. If you love the movie, you owe it to yourself to get the best version out there and this is absolutely it.

Very entertaining - Well done!
Highly entertaining thriller sci-fi. I thought “hm, mm-kay” after reading the plot, but the Groundhog Day style plot was really well done. They keep it interesting. Also Tom Cruise is just an awesome action star — I knew the this movie would be great because he’s in it!

As a lover of movies in 4K physical format, this is one of the ones you have to have in your collection, it is very good, with great effects and a very sharp image.

Cruise scores again
Another good movie from Tom Cruise. I have no idea why Americans reject the good things that they have. Tom Cruise is a great American brand. While you might not love the movie all of his movies are good entertainment. You can't go wrong. And this movie is no exception. Wimpy, cowardly used-car-salesman of a military pretend-to-be-brass guy is ordered to the front lines while in England (it is a world war and Americans are fighting along side Brits in London as Europe has already fallen to the aliens). He then tries to blackmail his way out of the order. He is put under military arrest. He is sent to the front lines on the beaches of France as the Earth fleet tries to take back France from the aliens. From there he gets killed and the entire day repeats itself, over and over and over and over and over, until he meets up with the "Full Metal Bitch" or Bighton Angel or whatever else she is called. This movie makes me wonder how people can continually come up with fresh ideas for alien, shoot-em-up action flicks. But it does have a unique, fresh approach that keeps you entertained, or at least me. However, there are definite deja vu moments where you think you are watching one of the Alien Trilogy movies (sans Sigourney Weaver). Not only do the aliens in this movie resemble the aliens in the one of the originaal Alien Trilogy movies but you even have the world fleet squad comprised of characters that resemble Aliens. Also, Bill Paxton is in this movie heading up the invading squad of soldiers. He was a member of the squad that tried to help Sigourney Weaver find out what happened to the plantation in Aliens. Then there is the entire future telling elements that remind you of Cruise's Minority Report and Matrix. There are the "mimics" with the computer-like features like Matrix. There is the War-of-the-Worlds-like sequences. Etc etc. So the movie, while a fresh idea in its entirety, does resemble SEVERAL other movies. And of course there are the religious connotations just like Matrix etc. You have Alpha and Omega, a Christ-like figure saving the world while sacrificing himself, an anti-Christ-like figure, armageddon, etc. What would Hollywood do without God for plot lines? But, I must say that while Cruise does his usual good job he is looking like he is starting to age. In this movie he looks tired. He looks old. He looks kinda sick actually. So I guess we all do age eventually. :-(

Amazing
Phenomenal. It starts off like a standard fare generic sci fi doomsday B movie, and I was initially bored and disappointed, but once Cage gets infected with the alien blood the movie becomes a totally engaging and exciting thriller that had me on thr edge of my seat. Very enjoyable romantic twist as well. 10/10 and I will definitely watch this again.

Excellent and Entertaining
The Critical Drinker recommended this one, and I have to thank him for doing so. This was an entertaining and well-made near future/alien invasion variant of a Groundhog Day situation. All the acting was pretty solid, with the possible exception of a number of the actors who don't seem the least bit like soldiers of any variety (although this somewhat holds up given they are apparently "minimally trained"). I found some of the military minutia laughable, such as a major in the USMC being such a complete coward, sending a media relations officer into the front lines for any reason, a foreign/Irish(!?) general being able to court martial a US field officer (or any serviceman, really) and bust him to private, etc., but can overlook those comparatively minor faults given the fairly tight overall plot and solid characterizations, the excellent special effects and fight choreography, and the good camera work. I'm hardly a professional in any aspect of film, but do tend to notice when something is significantly off, so YMMV. Most notably, these sorts of films frequently have fight scenes that draw on so long they tire out the audience. I didn't experience that with this film. Tom Cruise gives one of his typically excellent performances, as does Emily Blunt. It doesn't seem overly long, and the development of their relationship is done extremely well, with quite a lot more subtlety than these things are usually done. My only other complaint is that the ending felt a bit sudden and I was hoping for a bit more of an emotional payoff, but nonetheless I think it works, even if I felt a bit unsatisfied by it.
