Forget all the tech-talk about workflow and archiving, Apple have given us all a camera that takes care of all this for us, so now it's time to take great photos. This book will show you the best ways to approach every possible subject with your iPhone, offering tips as clear and simple as the iPhone's interface. Additionally you'll see some great effects that you won't find in Instagram (but your followers will love). Review: Handbook essential - Great info, well written & designed! Review: Great For Newbies; So-So for Experienced Shooters - Well, I was intrigued by the title, and the price was low enough, so I decided to splurge! The book is super basic when it comes to photography; a seasoned or pro shooter will get bored with a lot of this book. I was pleased by the sharing of apps and usage. there are thousands of iPhone apps for post processing, sharing etc. I have been looking at the books and trying to weed through and find the apps that are the most commonly used. For an amateur, a teen, or others who have little to no experience with image making, this book will do a great job of getting you started. Repleat with great images, Hollimgsworth shares some great moments, as well as some supurb techniques. However, if you have ever shot with a DSL or quality Rangefinder, this will probably be a good book for a few ideas, and some nice pics to look at. But, I always tell people - even if it is simplistic - if you get one idea or new technique - or if the bloody book just makes you THINK - thin it's worth it!

A Real Learning Experience
I've always been a "technical" photographer. I pay more attention to what camera settings I need to use to get the shot I want, and less attention to the emotional side of photography or the connection between the photo and the viewer. This book is going to change that. The Joy of iPhotography is not an instruction manual for taking better photos, nor is it a book about apps and how to use them. It is a series of experiences taken from the chapters of Jack Hollingsworth's life as a photographer and expressed in print with the same passion that Jack has for iPhone photography. And although this book is all about taking pictures with an iPhone, the same lessons learned here can be applied to photography in general, whether you shoot with an iPhone or a DSLR with all the fancy lenses. Jack has been taking photos for decades and not only has a lot of knowledge and wisdom about what camera settings are needed to get the shot, but he knows a lot about the medium in general. He's done his homework. I've been a photography enthusiast for years, and became an iPhone-only photographer last year. Just when I thought I knew it all, this book comes out and now I feel like I just went to school. I learned even more about exposure, composition, and even editing, but remember, this book isn't a manual for these things. Jack incorporates these things into the emotional side of photography because they are in the "sum of its parts" that make photography whole. The images in The Joy of iPhotography are splendid and each page of text is complimented by a page of images to illustrate each point Jack is making. Plus the quotes from other photographers and the little anecdotes throughout the book are very thought provoking. Again, there's the emotional side of photography that I've been missing out on. I will be keeping this book handy for quite some time because I know I will be revisiting its pages for inspiration and the reminder that there is much more to photography than just getting the shot with the right settings. Jack Hollingsworth, thank you for allowing me to discover another side of not just myself, but another side of the art of photography, and more specifically, iPhotography.

Good for the beginner
Nice overview to iPhotography but no actionable insights. I think he's saving those for his workshops. More a celebration of his pics and a collection of his thoughts than a guide for the aspiring photographer.

Great pocket guide that highlights fundamentals of photography
Being somewhat new to the photography field, I am by no means an expert. Photography is an art and a science, and this book couldn't have blended those two elements better. And while this book is geared towards mobile photography, the themes throughout apply to all photography. Jack highlights the important principles to become a better photographer. He covers not only technical aspects of photography and how to get there using your iPhone, but eloquently encapsulates the true reason we capture moments and are drawn to any given photo. What draws you to a photo? The exposure, the shutter speed that was used, the aperture of the lens, or the filter that was used? No. You may wonder about those aspects, sure, but what keeps us looking? It is the emotion behind the photo, presented to us by the photographer, life frozen in time. Jack reminds us of this fundamental idea, which you see in the title, the joy of taking photos. That joy and the passion which drives it, are the building blocks of all photography and the common thread between us. It is why I could not put this book down and why you the reader, would enjoy it also. Interwoven within the technical information, which for me is a fantastic learning tool, are words of wisdom from all of Jack's years of experience. Whether you're a beginner trying to build your skills, or you're a pro, this wonderful pocket guide will provide you with the guidance you need all while reminding the reader why they love photography in the first place. Perfect for on the go, it fits easily into any laptop bag, handbag, or camera bag, is easy to understand for the non-technical photographer, and has beautiful photos demonstrating many of the points made throughout. Jack's book is about being you, and letting the you, shine through. Happy snapping folks!

This book will guide and help you get the best out of your iPhone's camera and offers advice on some of the better apps out there. The book is well put together and it's easy to get stuck into. I'd recommend it to beginners and seasoned pros.

Great Book
Hello Jack. I've bought your book even English is not my native language. I was very surprised when I started reading your book - very different than others mobile photography books. Your book inspired me to take more pictures and not to worry so much about apps and gear. Very nice reading and very good pictures. Keep the good work!

Over-excited view of iphotography
Jack Hollingsworth writes over-enthusiastically in this evangelical plug for iphotography. As a professional photographer, he makes some useful points about the democratisation of picture-making through the use of smartphones, but you don't need to spend almost ten pounds to pick up most of the tips on offer here. There is nothing here in terms of technical tips and tricks. Overall, the book promotes and encourages the taking of photos, and whilst it's a positive message: get out there and take photos, find your own style, photograph what you love and ignore everything else, the mantra grates after a bit. Some of the ideas about themes, use of colour and light are useful but basic, so it's a bit hard to know who the book is really pitched at. Worth a flick through in the bookshop perhaps - the book is undeniably attractive in terms of production quality - but it won't tell you anything that you don't in your heart of hearts already know. Something of a vanity project for the author, one suspects.
