Is the plug flat (does it hug the wall and point down) or does it stick out?

It has a standard plug and sticks out. If you want to use this where it lays flat there are adapters you can get at any hardware store and maybe on amazon.

Is the wall plug a standard straight plug or is it a right angle plug?

Most Tripp Lite have standard plugs in this price range. However, I only use Tripp Lite brand. Have a $25,000 stereo. Want real protection? Look into Tripp Lite ISOBAR units. Isobars have maximum protection, maximum noise reduction, any they do come with right any plugs.

Is the foot print really 6.1" x 12.6"?

that's the shipping box size. unit is only 5x6 by a couple inches tallIT'S VERY COMPACT. WE LOVE THE CONVENIENT WAY PLUGS SWIVEL.

Is the plug flat with the cable coming out at an angle so it can fit snuggly behind furniture?

No, the plug runs straight from the cord and is not a "flat plug" design. It needs about two and a half inches of clearance between the wall and the furniture.
