Solid Cordless Combo for Routine Yard Maintenance, With Some Weight Tradeoffs
I picked up this Greenworks 40V 8" Pole Saw and Pole Hedge combo to handle routine trimming around my property—mainly shaping shrubs along the driveway and cutting back lower tree limbs that were starting to hang over the yard. For general maintenance tasks, it performs well and eliminates the need to drag out gas-powered equipment for smaller jobs. The pole saw has enough cutting power for modest branches, and the hedge trimmer attachment makes it easy to square up taller hedges without balancing on a ladder. The 40V platform provides adequate runtime with the included 2.0Ah battery for light to moderate trimming sessions. It’s noticeably quieter and cleaner than gas tools, and I appreciate not dealing with fuel mixing or pull starts. Assembly is straightforward, and switching between attachments doesn’t take long once you’ve done it once or twice. For homeowners maintaining average-sized landscaping, it’s a practical setup. The reason this isn’t a 5-star rating is the weight and balance when fully extended. Overhead work can become tiring fairly quickly, especially when reaching higher limbs. The 2.0Ah battery also limits longer work sessions; if you have a larger property, a higher-capacity battery would likely be necessary. That said, for typical seasonal trimming and yard upkeep, it’s a capable and convenient tool that fits well within a cordless system.

I was surprised..
I really bought this for very limited use. I had to have something to trim down a giant (overgrown) burning bush. Both tools worked really well and I was especially pleased with the chainsaw attachment. I dislike chainsaws. Messy. Don't last long. After 50 years of putting up with them, this little thing was a pleasant surprise. Of course it isn't going to work on a tree, so.... But my tree downing days are over anyway. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or buy it again.

Awesome pole chainsaw. Really
Neighbor needed a tree-like bush trimmed. As in, stand on a 12 foot ladder while using 2 of the 3 sections (left off the center piece; VERY heavy if you use all 3) of the pole chainsaw. It easily cut through 6-inch branches. The amazing thing is how long the little 2ah battery lasted. I expected 20-30 minutes total run time. It lasted what seemed like 3 times that-- allowing for carting off the cuts several times during the 2+ hour project. Very pleased with this product AND I can use my Gmax 40 V 4ah batteries if ever needed. Just make sure you use the supplied charger, with ONLY the 2ah battery provided. A 4ah charger would likely be hazardous (as mentioned in the handbook). This might be the best buy I've ever made. $160 during Prime Days. It’s well worth the full price of $240.

Don't even think about it
I used the pole saw a few times and have had a pretty positive experience with it. It's easy to handle, cuts well and the battery life is reasonable. The main issue is with the chain getting loose and you have to constantly tighten it, which a matter of loosening the bar and pulling on the bar (there is no screw adjustment for the chain as is found on most chain saws). The reason for the single star is for the hedge trimmer and for the abysmal customer service. About 5 minutes into the second use, the hedge trimmer jammed and would no longer function. There are a number of other reviews that mention this issue; they are worth paying attention to - I wish I had. That there is apparently a design issue with these is bad enough, but most egregious is the support you get from Greenworks. On 6/23/21 I call customer service and was put in the queue and was, according to the recording, number 1 in the queue. It was an hour and 28 minutes before I got a representative. I was told the hedge trimmer would be covered under warranty but a replacement would not be available until the end of July and I would need to send an email reconfirming my address on or after 7/26/21 (why was this my responsibility?). I did that on 7/26/21 but received nothing back. I requested status on 7/30/21 but have received no response. Do I want to spend another 1 1/2 hours or more calling in to customer service again? Or do I just go buy another hedge trimmer? If you think this looks like a good deal or a good price, don't believe it. It simply isn't worth the risk and the hassle. Get something more reliable from a company that stands behind the product.

Pretty happy.
I use the hedge trimmer about once a month, always spraying the blade, both sides, with silicon spray, keeping it lubricated several times during each session. If I take a break, I spray more silicon spray on it. Also keeping the chain saw cleaned out and lubricated up each time I use it. It all stills works great after almost 2 years. Love how high up the hedge trimmer reaches, although I need breaks. It's a little heavy fully extended. The chain saw is sweet. It has cut down thick branches high up several times. Battery life is good. If I start with a fully charged battery I never run out of power. I'm very happy with the purchase and would purchase it again.

Chainsaw was a nice bonus
I had the first version of the Greenworks pole hedge trimmer, but it broke -- motor runs, gearbox moved the blades, but the pinon gear either broke or spins free on the motor shaft. Disappointing that a company named "Greenworks" would have no replacement parts available for sale, so mine ended up in a land fill for lack of a trivial replacement part (either the pinon gear or the motor) This one is not as "adjustable" as the older model but it should make it stronger overall, it has a longer reach and is a good bit heavier but no other tool can get all our hedges while staying on our property. The pole saw attachment is a nice feature and has a longer reach than the corded one I've used for years. Not dragging around an extension cord is wonderful, my neighbor who borrows my corded pole say a couple of times a year was happy to take my old one.
