Dilip Kumar - 3 Classic Films (Dil Diya Dard Liya/Naya Daur/Arzoo) is a compilation of 3 popular movies of the legendary actor Dilip Kumar. All the three movies are typical Bollywood dramas that reflect the pathos of the times they are set in. While Dil Diya Dard Liya won Dilip Kumar a nomination for the Best Actor award, Naya Daur went on to become the second highest-grossing film of 1957. Dil Diya Dard Liya, directed by Abdul id Kardar, was released in 1966. It revolves around Shankar (Dilip Kumar), the adopted son of a wealthy, widowed landlord, Thakur. Thakur’s own son, Ramesh, a philanderer and drunkard, hates Shankar for his goodness and for being in love with his sister, Roopa. Because of this intense hatred, Ramesh gets Shankar severely beaten and thrown off a cliff. However, Shankar survives, and years later comes back home as a wealthy Raja. Even now, he cannot have Roopa by his side, for things have changed drastically at home. Shankar finds himself abusing the very lady he loved as his life. Naya Daur is a 1957 drama directed by B R Chopra. It was set in post-independence India, when the tussle was not only between the rich and poor but also between man and machine. The touching movie depicts how motor vehicles replaced ton and drove people like Shankar (Dilip Kumar), a tongawallah, out of jobs. The movies goes on to show if the underdog wins in the film or not. The 1950 film Arzoo was directed by Shahid Latif. It is a true-blue Bollywood-style tragic love story which features Dilip Kumar as Badal, a clown villager, who after a misunderstanding is believed to be dead. Years later when he returns to the village, now transformed into a serious Indian Army officer, he finds Kamla, his lover, is married to a wealthy man.
