Do I use the Cedis capsule just as it comes out of the box, or do I tear something off?

Take one capsule out of the box at a time 

Do i close the unit completely at night?

Yes, that is very important. If you don't close the unit completely, the capsule will expire sooner, because you are taking the humidity out of the surrounding room, rather than just the unit.

What is the expiration?

I looked at the unit and package they come in, and there is no date listed. So, if there is an expiration date, I haven't seen one.

Are you to remove them from the plastic shell by removing what appears to be a cardboard top? The directions furnished are not in english.

No, do not remove the "cardboard" top. That holds the absorbent material together.
