Great HiFi streaming solution
Works great with my Raspberry Pi 4B. Easy to attach to the main unit. Running Plexamp headless to my receiver via the coax output on this device. Receiver sees everything correctly and Iโm finally able to stream 192khz/24bit from Plex to my AVR. Everything sounds great! If you have a compatible Pi youโre looking to use as a streamer, I definitely recommend this. If not, HDMI out from an old PC could be a cheaper route.

Finally a good hat
Easy install. Works well with a DeskRoar B75 over optic.

works out of the box with volumio, sounds fab!
Mounted the hat on a new RPI4, inserted an sd card with an existing and configured Volumio instance, selected *snd_rpi_hifiberry_digi" in the Volumio playback options/output device dropdown, connected an sp/dif cable from the digi hat sp/dif socket to my Shiit Modi3+ dac, and played music! Couldn't be much easier than that! Sound quality definitely improved using sp/dif over the RPI USB output direct to DAC USB input. I should have bought the pro version though, it has an extra clock chip that avoids conversions in certain bit rates 44.1 vs. 48khz. Oh well I will likely buy the pro version next.

Worked great out of box to turn Pi-Zero to audio media server.
I was interested in using my Pi Zero W as a audio media server, to play from my plex server, and streaming services. Needed a digital out, as my stereo receiver was out of analog ports, and I wanted to conserve the digital quality since it was going to be exclusively streaming and digital music. Hi-Fi berry has their drivers as part of the Raspian distro, and it just took a quick config edit to activate it. Setting up Mopidy was a bit trickier but the results worked great.

This works great on the Rasberry PI 3
This works great on the Rasberry PI 3. Better make sure it works with your image file. Kodi works, Rasplex doesn't work! It gives the PI real Hifi.

Turn your Raspberry Pi 3 into a music server/player
This is simply an update to the existing reviews, as of June 2017, to note that this card works perfectly well with the Raspberry Pi 3, to provide higher-quality, SPDIF digital output (either via optical TOSLINK or RCA Coaxial connections). If your A/V receiver has available TOSLINK or RCA SPDIF inputs, this is the ideal solution to bypass the Pi's poor-quality onboard DAC. I'm using it as a dual-purpose Squeezebox (Logitech Media Server) and Squeezelite (Squeezebox player). LMS has no trouble automatically finding the resulting Squeezelite player. If you're using this combo, go to the LMS settings and set the player's output to fixed 100%, and use your audio component(s) to control volume, for best results. The steel case, also made and sold by HiFiBerry, completes the installation for a professional-looking device.

Stunning audio quality
Bought this in 2017 and it outputs fantastic audio from my flac files. Due to network issues with the raspberry pi>lms system I use (iโm not a software engineer!) I replaced this with a $1000 network audio streamer. The sound from this is far superior and Iโve returned the high end streamer. Incredible fidelity and worth the time and effort to make it work

Not just for HIFIBERRY OS!
Picked this up, hoping it would work with OSMC to get digital sound AND still get Composite out to a CRT. Was very easy to setup, just add one line to config.txt (the one printed right on the PCB), then change the sound output device in OSMC settings. No more buzzing and line noise on my personal MTV channel. Thanks!
