Great filtration
Perfect fit for my pet water fountain. Water flowed perfectly threw them. Did what it was supposed to and kept my pets water bowl fresh and clean.

Works in Our Fountain
We use these filters in our 1-gallon Petsafe Drinkwell Fountain. After years of trying knockoff brands, I went back to using the name brand since they last longer and don't just seem more durable. They are pretty simplistic in design but seem fairly high quality and don't fall apart in our fountain (like the off-brand). It does just find filtering through our large fountain ,even when our girls get hair and other nastiness in the fountain itself (a problem with two large dogs), and it helps keep the fountain clean and not making horrid noises.

Great at catching pet hair and large objects
These prefilters last a long time and can be reused for a while before replacing. They do a great job at catching the large objects and protecting the pump in the fountain. Are these required for the water fountain to work? No. But is it highly recommended to use these? Yes. Large particulates like cat hair and food can get stuck in the water fountain without this. These fit snuggly around the water fountain base and are really straightforward to put on. Petsafe says these last 1 to 2 months. I usually replace them after 1 month. However, if you stay vigilant about cleaning your fountain, I can see these lasting 2 months with no issues. You can easily wash out anything that may have collected on the filter and it'll basically look like new. Overall, I like these more than the charcoal filters because of how easy these are to use and how effective they are. However, the charcoal filters serve the function of keeping the water clean so the two must work in tandem for your water fountain to stay nice.

great primary filters
My dogs (who drool a lot and leave as much stuff in the water fountain as they take out) are picky drinkers and only want filtered water. These filters stop a lot of large particles and grime from getting into the water pump. I get the two pack on auto delivery every month since I empty and scrub the water fountain every other week. I tried knock off brands of these and they were horrible. These cost more but are worth it. Speaking of cost, I can't understand why a 2 pack cost $7, a 4 pack cost 4 times as much and a 12 pack cost 12 times as much... You would think buying in bulk would be cheaper, not exponentially more!

A Message from the Orange Menace(s)
Reviewers: Nacho (The Brains) & Cheese (The Muscle) Species: Orange Tabby (Female / Rare 1-in-5 Club) Product: PetSafe Drinkwell Replacement Foam Filters The Verdict: Five Cans of Tuna out of Five Listen up, humans. Usually, our "Orange Cat Energy" is reserved for screaming at 3:00 AM and trying to eat the plastic shower curtain. But today, we’re pausing our busy schedule of falling off the sofa to talk about these foam squares. Why We Love Them: The Hair Trap: Between the two of us, we shed enough orange fluff to knit a third sister. Before Mom got these filters, the fountain pump sounded like it was coughing up a hairball the size of a Buick. Now? It’s whisper-quiet, meaning we can sneak up on it for a midnight sip without waking the giant barking dog. The "Cheese" Test: I (Cheese) personally enjoy dipping my paws into the water and flicking it at the wall. This filter catches all the "extra flavor" (dust, litter, and whatever Nacho found under the fridge) before it hits the pump. Freshness Level: Elite: The water stays so clean that we’ve almost stopped trying to drink out of the dripping bathroom faucet. Almost. We have standards, after all. Our Professional Assessment: "I used to spend my afternoons watching the pump struggle to breathe through a thick coat of my own fur. With these PetSafe filters, the flow is as smooth as my brain during a nap. 10/10, would stare at for twenty minutes straight." — Nacho Final Thoughts: Our mom says they are "easy to replace," which is human-speak for "I can fix the fountain in 30 seconds before these two start gnawing on my ankles." If you have orange cats—or any cats with a penchant for shedding and chaos—you need these.

You could get by without it, but you shouldn’t.
This is a pre filter for your pump to keep the pet hair and slobber from goobering up the small passages in the pump. When it’s time for the tear down and cleaning, you’ll be happy this was in place. Water quality lasts longer and so does pump life and pump performance. The AI wants to know about taste… well I’m not tasting it, no matter how well I clean it. The fur babies really like it though. They always opt for the running water over the bowl.

I rinse these out once per week and switch them out once per month. They do catch any debris and likely lengthen the motors life
I used to find that our dogs drinking water would get an icky slimy feeling after only a day or so. It bothered me a lot, so I finally purchased the ceramic pagoda water fountain (on sale with an additional coupon from Petco - worth the wait) and haven't regretted it! We have an RO system, as we live in a hard water area. I use the charcoal filters and switch them out once a month, at the same time as these foam filters. After a month the charcoal filter and foam filter has a very slight "fish-tanky" smell if I put it right up to my nose, so honestly it might be better to do the switch every three weeks perhaps, but the water is never slippery feeling. Our dog used to refuse to drink from her water dish when it wasn't perfectly clean (after a day or so), and she hasn't ever stopped drinking from the pagoda fountain with my current cleaning schedule (she used to bark once when we were running water at the sink, to let us know she needed water, so she knows how to tell me when her water isn't fresh lol) I have found that these foam filters do catch any hair, dust, the occasional gnat etc before the water goes through the motor so I am sure that the foam filters will increase the life span of the motor I believe that the charcoal filters keep the water fresh for much longer. I used the fountain a couple of times without the charcoal filters, the first time I ran out, and the water seemed to get slimy again immediately. (I will post this review there too) I top up the water daily and pull it all apart and clean everything once per week religiously. When I clean everything I run water through the charcoal filter and shake it out a few times. I also clean this foam filter really well with hot water, before re-assembling it all. I don't put any parts in the dishwasher, just wash out everything with very hot water (except the motor which I rinse out with cold) Very pleased with this whole set up, and it is well worth the few minutes it takes once a week to clean it, and our dog does drink more water than before. And I feel much, much happier now that it never feels slimy, plus I like the indoor water fountain calming trickle. One comment on the sound though, it does get a lot louder if the water level is low, particularly as we have it on a tiled floor in an open plan kitchen/TV area. The changing sound level helps remind me to top it up so that's probably a good thing! If the water level is no more than 1/2-1" below the edge then the water sound is very zen!

Useable though pricey
Perfect fit and function. Just on the pricey side compared with alternatives, which admittedly can be a bit shadey.
