Great tool for youtube mechanic

I like working my own cars (gen x) instead of paying $150 an hour for labor. So a front bearing job could be $1800 total for a part that cost around $200. First I was way over my head trying to do this job because it took me a long time, and a lot of mistakes to get it right so let’s just say $400 in parts(I destroyed the first set of bearings I bought) lol. If you want to use an impact to remove them fine who cares, do not use an impact to reinstall them-don’t do it!!I did some research on the Astro bearing puller set and was satisfied with what everyone said. Honestly it’s an awesome set, and it eventually worked for me. It comes with instructions and seems to be robust, except it wasn’t working for me. Ughhh. So I called Astro explained my issue with the collar being too small and they sent me the collar I needed (xla) for free!!! It just so happened this set probably works for 99% of vehicles, the set I bought was the XL, doesn’t work for a 2003 sequoia limited. I actually have another car I have to do bearings on, so it’s well worth the kit. All in all for the price, simplicity, and customer service Im very satisfied.

Worth every penny, this thing works!

I did all the typical efforts to remove the big, stuck brake rotors in my 2014 Ford F150 4x4: Saturate with WD-40, bang on the rear with a sledge hammer, use the heat gun, and this rotor didn't budge. The puller arrived today, and let me tell you, it does what it"s supposed to do in a major way. Take your time with this tool, and your rotor will come off. Saturate the front and rear of the hub with penetrate. Partially thread all six lug nuts on (you can't be too safe). Use grease on the main removal bolt on the threads and the two washers. Line up the gripper tabs behind the rotor and lock in place. Make the main bolt, finger tight against hub end. With everything in place, use a strap to keep the ends together. Slowly start to crank the bolt down with a ratchet, and when snug, I used an impact gun in small increments while holding the nut with a wrench, then I banged the surface of the rotor with a sledge hammer every so often, then back to the impact gun for a few seconds. Be ready for when the rotor pops, it won't fly off, thanks to the lug nuts partially threaded on. It works and is definitely for heavy duty jobs. I attached some pics so you can see the rust on the hubs that was bonding the rotor to it. The rotor is 14" in diameter.

Stuck rotor you need this.

The media could not be loaded. After having this for more than 3 years and using it a few times a month, this has been an important tool for my auto repair business. It’s important to clean and grease the threads so damage does not occur. In the video Im using a Milwaukee 2767. I tried a 50oz dead blow ball peen hammer first and that didn’t work, then I tried a super duty air hammer and that didn’t work so it was time to bring out the big dog. A few seconds of using this makes the job easy. If your contemplating on getting this don’t. You need this honestly. Again this review is after using it a few times a month for over 3yrs and 4mos

Did the job.

Four stars because I didn't realize it would be used and scuffed. I'm sure a lot of people buy it, use it and return it. Don't! The device is strong and broke both rotors. I tried everything else. I wouldn't have gotten them off without it. Car is an '06 CR-V with 190K miles.

Does the stuff like a brute!

I am a professional Master Tech. Where I am there is one machine shop that closed down, and I am close to retirement so have no desire to build a machine shop of my own for the less than steady flow of cars that need this tool. Besides, I don't remember the machine shop having anything that does what this can do ON THE CAR!I bought this to pull drums, rotors and anything else it can "tug on". I took a 2005 Toyota Highlander in for a brake job and wheel bearings. Tried everything in my arsenal to remove the rotors. No avail. DESTROYED them using everything I could throw at them, and even peeled back the backing plates so I could pound on them with a ten-pound sledge. Beats me why the discs did not shatter, but they were pretty tweaked. Still nothing budged them. Ordered this tool after watching a few guys popping the rotors with one, and said, "what the heck". Next was to remove the carrier and take to a machine shop in another city if this didn't work. My impact gun took the wheels off, and removed the strut bolts from the carrier. I did NOT use it with this tool nor the bearing press tool.Hooked up the tool after delivery, and after adding some high density wheel bearing grease to the threaded "bolt", as I knew it was going to get about 20 tons of force put on it. Then I took out one big combo wrench to hold the inside nut and commenced cranking on the bolt head with my biggest breaker bar and my full body weight at one point. Way more torque than my air gun could ever muster. There was a creaking crack, and then "BOOM", the rotor bounced off taking tool with it. I was back out of the way in anticipation of the launch. It only flew about 20 inches, but would have hurt if I'd have been right there on top of it, so STAY BACK! But get the tool, I WORKS! Then did the other side and have played with it as a mobile press for a bunch of stuff now. SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE OF THESE YEARS AGO!!!If you're a pansy and don't like heavy, don't buy it. This is a REAL tool, so it's heavy FOR A REASON. Man up or take your stuff to a shop. This CAN kick your but if you don't respect it, but I doubt you'll break it! Don't use a gun on it, as with that much stress on a pull, you'll tear up the bolt threads due to SPEED. Has nothing to do with weight. Don't be stupid. Use an impact and you'll be one of the whiners here who couldn't figure out why they trashed this tool. BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T HEED THR WARNINGS! That's why. It's like the guys who drill hole with hole saws, running the drill at full speed and whine because the saw got trashed half way through the cut! THEY WEREN'T DESIGNED FOR SPEED, AND IT SAYS SO ON THE TOOL! I get dozens of cuts on a single hole saw. Follow directions/instructions, and you'll have good tools for the intended lifespan...
